In the latest installment of Borderlands, players encounter a sinister experience created by the Smiley Man known as the No Escape Room. This challenging escape room forms part of the side missions in Borderlands 4 and requires keen problem-solving skills, rather than the typical combat strategies like the Wombo Combo.
Among the myriad side missions in Borderlands 4, the No Escape Room stands out as one that truly tests your intellect. If you’re eager to conquer this escape challenge, we’ve meticulously outlined the steps to navigate through each puzzling scenario.
Location and Prerequisites for the No Escape Room Mission

This intriguing side mission is initiated within the Terminus District of Dominion City. To access it, players must navigate to a tunnel marked by a series of purple arrows. Following these arrows will lead you directly to the button that launches the mission.

To embark on this adventure, ensure that you have completed the main campaign’s prerequisite of entering Dominion City. Once this is done, the No Escape Room mission will be accessible.
Solving the Door Puzzle in No Escape Room

Upon activating the mission by pressing the button, you will find yourself in a room with three doors and the Smiley Man observing you from behind reinforced glass. He will inform you that only one door leads to safety, while the others spell doom.
Your goal here is straightforward—choose the yellow door. This option is not only visibly cleaner but also lacks the telltale signs of danger such as blood or Dead Bolts, indicating a safe passage.

For extra assurance, players can find an Echo Log hint hidden amidst the rubble to the right of the doors, confirming their choice.
Unlocking the Key Box Puzzle

The second challenge involves locating a key to open a box. However, this key won’t unlock any legendary class mods but will grant your freedom!
You must open the boxes in a specific sequence. Each correctly opened box provides a new key, leading to the next box until you escape:
- Second box from the left (marked with a fan symbol)
- Farthest right (marked by a bird symbol)
- Second box from the right (marked with a cow symbol)
- Farthest left (marked with an Order symbol)
- Central chest (marked with an eyeball symbol)
Upon successfully opening the boxes in order, you will be able to advance to the next puzzle. Keep an eye out for hints located in:
- First hint: On the table with the first key
- Second hint: On a board in front of the waterfall
- Third hint: Next to the drain pipe by the boxes
- Fourth hint: Inside the air vent adjacent to the boxes
- Fifth hint: In the hole to the left of the boxes
Additionally, an Echo Log can be found in a hole to the right of the boxes, which the Smiley Man will chastise you for listening to.
Navigating the Maze Puzzle
The third puzzle presents players with an expansive maze. While it may appear daunting, the key to success lies in following the carrots scattered throughout the area.
At the entrance to the maze, you will see carrots with their tips pointing left—this directional guidance is consistent throughout. Simply follow the direction the carrots indicate to find your way out.
Be cautious of hidden hazards and jumps along the path; having a reliable Repkit, such as the Triple Bypass, will be invaluable for overcoming any damage you might incur.

As with prior puzzles, there is an Echo Log containing a valuable hint for the maze. To locate it, veer right at the start of the maze and proceed near the incendiary trap, where a small dead end hides the Log.
Final Exit Puzzle Strategies

Upon successfully navigating the maze, the Smiley Man introduces his final obstacle—filling the room with gas. As the air becomes thick with fumes, activate your grappling hook to dislodge the vent situated above to your right.
Once the control mechanism is exposed, take aim and shoot it to cease the gas flow and dismantle the energy shield separating you from the Smiley Man. A brief encounter later, he meets his end in a fiery blaze intended for you, allowing your escape.
Feel free to take a snapshot as you exit through the left door and claim your well-deserved loot from the red chest.
