In Borderlands 4, the pursuit of exceptional loot and devastating firepower is central to gameplay. While players will encounter a variety of Rare and Epic weapons, securing a Legendary weapon, particularly early in the game, is vital for maximizing your character’s potential.
Among the plethora of Legendary options, shotguns stand out as some of the most powerful tools in the game. The Hellwalker shotgun exemplifies this, boasting unparalleled destructive capability in close-quarters combat.
Here’s a guide on how to obtain the Hellwalker legendary shotgun to enhance your character’s performance in Borderlands 4.
Acquiring the Hellwalker Legendary Shotgun

The Hellwalker legendary shotgun can be obtained by defeating the bosses known as Meathead Riders, specifically Saddleback and Immortal Boneface. These bosses reside in the Old Scrape Ripper Drill Site, located in the Cuspid Climb area on the eastern part of the game map.
Due to its legendary classification, players might have to take down the Meathead Riders multiple times before the Hellwalker drops. For example, it took me nearly ten attempts before I finally acquired this coveted shotgun.
Upon defeating Immortal Boneface, listen for a distinctive ‘ding’ sound which signifies the drop of a legendary item. An orange glow will signal the possible acquisition of the Hellwalker, although there’s a chance it may also be other legendaries like the Shiny War Paint Repkit or Lucian’s Flank assault rifle.
Farming the Meathead Riders for the Hellwalker Shotgun

To farm the Meathead Riders effectively, purchase an encore from Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine located at the entrance of the Old Scrape Ripper Drill Site. This allows you to reset the area and engage the bosses anew.
Interestingly, you can reset drill sites as often as you prefer using the encore machine; however, it will cost you approximately 30, 000 cash per reset. Be strategic—collect and sell loot from defeated enemies at vending machines to maintain your finances.
To streamline the farming process further, consider lowering the game’s difficulty to easy. This adjustment will enable you to swiftly handle the enemy waves and the Meathead Riders, ultimately speeding up your quest to obtain the Hellwalker shotgun.
When encountering the Meathead Riders, prioritize eliminating the Saddleback first, since taking down Immortal Boneface can prove quite challenging before doing so. Once the Saddleback is dispatched, you’ll find that Immortal Boneface is much more manageable.
Although any weapon can be utilized against the Meathead Riders, I recommend employing the Wombo Combo assault rifle. Its unique feature of firing rockets in automatic mode inflicts substantial damage, making battles more efficient.
Exploring Hellwalker Attributes

The Hellwalker shotgun features the unique Soothslayer trait, which emits a delightful guitar sound with each shot fired. Beyond this aesthetic appeal, the weapon excels in critical damage, range, and shield penetration. Among all shotguns in Borderlands 4, the Hellwalker boasts one of the fastest reload times, although players should note that it can only deliver two shots before requiring a reload.
This shotgun proves to be an excellent choice for both midgame and endgame strategies, particularly for players who prefer direct confrontations with enemies. Additionally, consider the Hot Slugger shotgun, another Legendary weapon worthy of addition to your arsenal.
