Delay Announced for Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2
Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox Software, recently created a buzz on X (formerly known as Twitter) by hinting at a significant announcement concerning Borderlands 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Initially, he led fans to believe bad news was on the horizon, suggesting a possible delay past 2025. However, he quickly revealed the initial release date set for October 3, 2025, much to the excitement of gamers.
Fast forward to now, it seems that excitement was short-lived. Gearbox’s official Borderlands X account has announced that the highly anticipated release has been postponed. The October 3 launch date is no longer applicable, and no new release date has been confirmed. This leaves fans in the dark until Gearbox is ready to share an updated timeline, stating they need to “fully adjust”their development plans.
Impact on Pre-Orders
Compounding this disappointing news, all digital pre-orders will be cancelled in accordance with Nintendo’s eShop policy. Players will need to re-submit their pre-orders once a new release date is announced. Digital pre-orders will automatically be cancelled by September 26, 2025. For those who pre-ordered physical copies, it will be necessary to contact the retailer for further instructions.
Official Statement from Gearbox
In their announcement, Gearbox addressed players directly:
Greetings, Vault Hunters – We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development…

Looking Ahead
While this delay is undoubtedly a setback for Borderlands enthusiasts eager to dive into the game on release day, it aligns with the ongoing challenges faced by the franchise regarding technical issues on other platforms. As fans hold their breath for a new release window, one can only hope that the game will launch before year-end 2025, echoing Randy Pitchford’s earlier comments. However, with numerous fixes currently underway for other versions of the game, it remains uncertain whether the Switch 2 version might actually slip into early 2026.
