Bo Nickal labels Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs a “freaking fraud” after online war of words
Next month at UFC 300, Bo Nickal will be making his highly anticipated comeback to the octagon. He is scheduled to kick off the main card with a bout against Cody Brundage. As a middleweight prospect, Nickal has been making waves, including calling out Olympic freestyle wrestling gold medalist Jordan Burroughs for his commentary during a match in the NCAA wrestling championships featuring Penn State Nittany Lions wrestler Carter Starocci.
On the StaleMates Show, Nickal spoke:
“It’s not his moment so why take a guy’s fourth national title and one of the biggest moments in his career and make it about yourself? To me, it just shows his character. The thing that bothers me is that nobody sees this. He always tries to act like an ambassador of the sport and, ‘Oh, congratulations to Penn State, I’m so proud of you guys and what you’re doing.’ Bro, you’re a freaking fraud.”
Nickal went on to say:
“You just want to make it about yourself so relax, don’t come at our guys and don’t act friendly to me when I see you. Because I guarantee you he’ll try to see me and be like, ‘What’s up Bo, dap it up’ and be cool. I’m like no, we’re not cool. I don’t really care to be cool with you so it is what it is.”

Starocci became aware of Nickal’s remarks, stating that he intends to defeat Burroughs at the Olympic trials in a few weeks and potentially end his wrestling career. As a fellow Penn State graduate, the UFC star is likely to stand up for the four-time national champion.
The Inspiration Behind Bo Nickal’s Comments on Jordan Burroughs
During the NCAA wrestling championships, Bo Nickal and Jordan Burroughs engaged in a heated exchange after Nickal expressed his disagreement with Burroughs’ commentary. The Olympic gold medalist had stated that he would have targeted Penn State wrestler Carter Starocci’s injured knee if they had faced each other in the tournament. Furthermore, Burroughs hinted that he may do the same at the upcoming Olympic trials next month.
Nickal responded to the comments with a tweet, expressing his disagreement.
“Really classy Jordan Burroughs as a commentator saying you’d target Starocci’s injury in competition. Sad that you think that way and even if you do you should keep that to yourself it’s unprofessional. For all your accomplishments I’d expect more.”
Nickal has no space for judgment, Burroughs suggested in response.
“You punch guys in the face for a living. Shut up.”
Nickal’s response was in the form of a claim that Burroughs was not suited for commentary work.
“You should stick to wrestling not commentating because you can’t stop talking about yourself.”

Despite seeming to have been resolved, Nickal’s recent statements indicate that the incident is far from over. In April, both Nickal and Burroughs, who are both champions in college wrestling, will have significant chances to showcase their talents – Nickal at UFC 300 and Burroughs at the Olympic trials.
