BlocBoy JB Arrested: Latest News, Real Name, Age, and Background on the Controversy Surrounding the Rapper

BlocBoy JB has recently made headlines following his arrest on October 1, 2024. The rapper has gained significant recognition over the years for his mixtapes, including Grape Juice, Loco, and Simi.

The incident began when a Memphis Police Department officer first spotted BlocBoy JB’s vehicle. The officer reportedly waited for a while, and as the car remained stationary, he approached it, discovering JB passed out with his foot on the brake.

The situation escalated when the officer discovered a black handgun and a bag containing marijuana in JB’s possession. The artist was subsequently taken to Shelby County jail with a bond set at $7,500, with further updates pending.

This is not the first brush with law enforcement for BlocBoy JB. In May 2019, he faced arrest on similar charges alongside several others during an investigation. On the day of his arrest, he was scheduled to perform at the Beale Street Music Festival. In a statement to Fox 13 Memphis, JB’s attorney, Murray Wells, remarked:

“They weren’t looking for him, and there was no warrant for him personally. They may have been looking for other suspects on the premises.”

Earlier that same year, BlocBoy was arrested in February after turning himself in to the authorities, facing charges related to drug possession and carrying a handgun.

BlocBoy JB’s Career Highlights: Acclaimed Projects and Background

Born James Lee Baker, the 28-year-old rapper has collaborated with major record labels, including Bloc Nation, Foundation, and Interscope. His upbringing was far from typical, as he was involved with the Grape Street Watts Crips gang.

BlocBoy JB’s journey in the music industry began in 2012 when he started releasing tracks on SoundCloud. Although his first mixtapes were released in 2016, his debut album, FatBoy, launched approximately four years ago, followed by Bacc 2 Da Blac in 2022.

He became notably popular for his hit single Shoot, which inspired a viral dance move that involves rubbing the belly while patting the head. In an interview with The Fader in 2018, JB explained how he developed the dance:

“When I play my own music I just do anything. I was in the mirror looking at myself and I got to winding that motherf*cker up and hitting that motherf*cker, just like, ‘Oh, that sh*t hard!’ I started hitting it in the video, and it just popped.”

BlocBoy JB also shared insights into the creation of the single, revealing that he was recording in bed and started yelling the word “shoot.”He recalled:

“I said it four times and then my cousin came in and was like, ‘Bruh, that sh*t is not wassup, loco.’ And I’m like, ‘N*gga, f*ck you mean, n*gga?!’ And I put it on loop like three, four times and we got to dancing to it.”

In addition to his solo work, he has a compilation album titled Gangsta Art. He also teamed up with Empire Dott for a project called Empire Bloc, released in 2018.

BlocBoy JB has made notable guest appearances on tracks by artists including Moneybagg Yo, ASAP Rocky, and Quando Rondo, and is well-known for singles such as Look Alive, Don’t Say That, Mercedes, Count Up, Home Alone, and Swervin.
