Blizzard’s “Mobile Port”: Speculations Rise on Major Overwatch 2 Feature Hiring
Overwatch 2 developer Blizzard recently advertised a vacancy for a Marketing Consultant. At first, this opportunity appeared typical, featuring a six-month contract. Nevertheless, online users swiftly deduced that this position relates to a significant new feature in the FPS game. While specifics remain under wraps, speculation among the community has begun to flourish.
Fans have flocked to various platforms to share their hypotheses regarding what this substantial addition could entail. Currently, one of the most prominent theories is the potential announcement of a mobile version of the FPS title.
According to the job listing from Blizzard, the role includes the following responsibilities:
“Blizzard is on a quest to find a dedicated Product Marketing Consultant to join the Overwatch 2 marketing team in Irvine, CA, on a six-month contract. This individual will support the marketing team with go-to-market planning and execution of a major feature for Overwatch 2.”
As a result, fans have actively speculated about the nature of this significant feature. One Redditor, u/cablenetwork, suggested it might pertain to a mobile port.
“Mobile port optimization.”
Support for this idea came from another user, u/RolandTwitter, who argued that since Activision successfully adapted the COD engine for mobile devices with Warzone Mobile, it’s plausible that OW2 Mobile is on the horizon.

Another Reddit user mentioned that given the increasing power of mobile devices to run high-end games like Resident Evil 7, the arrival of OW2 on mobile might be imminent.
“Hey, it runs on Switch… kind of. We’ve seen phones can now play RE7. I think phones have come pretty far in terms of gaming.”
Conversely, some users have posited alternative theories regarding the new major feature. For instance, user u/AdmiralZheng predicts that Blizzard might soon reintroduce the 6v6 mode, with the job hire associated with that change.

Additionally, another Redditor suggested that Blizzard could be planning to revive the PvE mode for the FPS title with this new position.

However, this theory appears less likely given that industry insider Jason Schreier previously reported that many team members responsible for Overwatch’s PvE have been laid off since January 2024 due to underperformance. Nevertheless, he did indicate that a mobile port of OW2 could very well be in the works.
Could Blizzard be developing Overwatch 2 Mobile?
While Blizzard has yet to officially announce OW2 Mobile, industry insider Jason Schreier has expressed belief in its existence. In his recent publication, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, he noted:
“Overwatch was led by Walter Kong, who oversaw the release of regular heroes and content for Overwatch 2, as well as new projects like a mobile version of the franchise.”
This statement hints at the potential development of a mobile rendition of the game. However, fans are advised to remain cautious until there is an official confirmation from the developers.
