Blade & Soul NEO Q&A – Attracting a New Player Base

Exciting Details About Blade & Soul NEO Launching February 25

Blade & Soul NEO is set to debut on February 25, providing a fresh take on the beloved MMORPG. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with Andrew Long, Senior Producer, and Andrew Gant, Community Manager, from NC America. They shared insights on what players can anticipate from this revamped version while confirming that the existing Blade & Soul Live will continue to receive updates alongside its successor.

A Glimpse into Customization and Classes

Before the interview, I received an exclusive preview of Blade & Soul NEO during a presentation. I was particularly impressed by the extensive character customization options, which allow players to personalize their avatars profoundly. At launch, players will have access to seven of the total 14 classes found in the current Blade & Soul Live. As you journey through the game, expect a variety of outfits that can be collected, ensuring your character stands out during boss encounters or competitive PvP matches.

For those eager to dive into this new experience, pre-order bundles are available, offering exclusive outfits and cosmetics. Furthermore, the game features enhanced graphics that breathe new life into the traditional Blade & Soul narrative, integrating improvements that enrich the story experience.

Key Insights from the Development Team

During my conversation, I took the opportunity to address some pressing questions from the community:

What made you decide to remake Blade & Soul now?

Andrew Long: Nostalgia plays a significant role for many of us; we believe that the game was at its peak during its initial launch. Our goal is to recreate that experience while reaching out to new audiences who may not have had the chance to play at that time. We want to foster an environment where both longtime fans and newcomers can interact and enjoy the game together.

New Features for Enhanced Gameplay

Exciting changes are coming with Blade & Soul NEO, including the introduction of infinite Windwalking. Previously, players faced restrictions on how much Windwalking they could perform before running out of stamina. With this new feature, players can explore the game world more freely, ascend structures previously unreachable, and take stunning photographs in new locations.

Will ranked systems be available for PvP or PvE?

Andrew Long: While we won’t have any ranking systems at launch, our 6v6 battlegrounds are set to release shortly thereafter. We plan to observe player engagement closely and introduce competitive elements as the community dives into the game.

Future Plans for Classes and Content

Regarding new classes in Blade & Soul NEO, Long stated:

Are there plans to introduce new classes that were not part of the original?

Andrew Long: We aim to incorporate the existing 14 classes into NEO. While we don’t have a detailed timeline for introducing new classes, it’s certainly on our radar.

Will there be unique stories or expansions for NEO compared to Live?

Andrew Long: I can’t disclose specifics at the moment, but it’s something we definitely plan to explore.

Gameplay Mechanics and Gear Acquisition

Both Andrews expressed their excitement over the revamped gear acquisition process:

What’s your favorite aspect of NEO compared to Live?

Andrew Gant: For exploration lovers like me, the infinite Windwalking is a game-changer. I look forward to uncovering hidden corners of the map and engaging friends in new adventuring challenges.

Andrew Long: We’ve fundamentally altered the gear drop system. In the original, players experienced a harsh progression with a zero-to-20 upgrade system. NEO introduces a more traditional approach, increasing drop rates and randomizing secondary stats, allowing players to earn gear more effectively—eliminating the need for exhaustive dungeon runs.

Community and Accessibility Considerations

Will there be controller support in the future?

Andrew Long: Currently, we don’t have controller compatibility available, but we are assessing options for consoles and Steam. This will not be ready for the launch, however.

Will there be NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR support?

Andrew Gant: DLSS will be integrated, ensuring customizable settings that optimize performance on various machines. The recommended specifications are comparable to those of Blade & Soul Live.

Looking Forward to Launch

As the launch of Blade & Soul NEO draws near, the development team is committed to making the experience welcoming for both new and returning players. With optional PvP, engaging gathering systems, and a wealth of gear to collect, there’s much to look forward to. The iconic Blade & Soul story will remain intact, complemented by enhanced visuals that offer a refreshed experience.

Blade & Soul NEO will be available for free on PC starting February 25 in North America and Europe.
