BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars’ ‘APT’ Hits Number One – Discover the Drinking Game That Inspired Their Collaboration

On October 20, 2024, Rosé of BLACKPINK made waves in the music industry by achieving her first Perfect All Kill (PAK) as a solo performer. Her latest track, “APT.”featuring Bruno Mars, clinched the top spot on all leading Korean music streaming platforms, including Bugs, MelOn, Genie, and FLO.

This new single racked up an impressive 6.85 million streams on Spotify and recorded an extraordinary 8.5 million total streams (factoring both filtered and unfiltered) on its debut. This monumental achievement marks it as the largest debut by any artist in 2024. Additionally, “APT.”secured the No. 1 position on the YouTube Music Korea daily chart, garnering over 2.6 million views. As of this writing, the official music video has surpassed 55 million views on YouTube.

Notably, the theme of Rosé’s new solo release draws inspiration from the popular Korean drinking game known as the “Apartment Game.”Prior to the track’s release, she was spotted demonstrating the game during the Yves Saint Laurent show at Paris Fashion Week on September 27, 2024.

For those unfamiliar, the game involves a leader calling out a number while players stack their hands on top of one another. Participants then sequentially call out different numbers and withdraw their hands one at a time, starting from the bottom. If a player pulls out their hand on the leader’s called number or repeats a previously mentioned number, they must drink as a penalty.

According to The Korea Times, Rosé elaborated on the concept through her agency, The Black Label, stating:

“‘APT.’ is actually my favorite Korean drinking game that I play with my friends back home. It’s so simple, puts a smile on your face and breaks the ice at any party. One night in the studio, I taught my crew how to play the game.”

She further commented:

“Everyone was fascinated, especially when I started the chant, so we played around with it and I said we should make a song out of it… and after Bruno joined the track, the rest became history!”
