According to a report by Korean Economy on April 4, 2024, luxury brand Christian Dior achieved trillion-won sales in the country in 2023, marking the first time in history. This success was attributed to the appointment of BLACKPINK’s Jisoo as an ambassador for the Maison.
According to the audit report released by Christian Dior Couture Korea on April 3, 2024, the brand’s domestic sales in 2023 reached 1.0456 trillion KRW, representing a 12.4% growth from the previous year’s sales of 930.5 KRW. Additionally, the operating profit for the same period was 312 billion won, showing a decrease of 3.6% compared to the previous year’s profit of 323.8 billion won.
Jisoo’s Dior Ambassadorship Leads to Tripled Sales in Three Years
Dior Fashion and Beauty announced on March 6, 2021 that BLACKPINK’s Jisoo would be their new global ambassador. The creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, expressed that the idol had served as a source of inspiration for their Fall 2021 collection.
The French multinational luxury fashion house, founded by fashion designer Christian Dior in 1946, has been under the leadership of businessman and CEO Bernard Arnault. Its product offerings include perfumes, cosmetics, jewelry, watches, fashion, and leather goods.
Ever since the BLACKPINK member was appointed as the ambassador for the Maison, Dior’s sales in South Korea have tripled in the past three years. The brand has successfully targeted the local market and even opened a children’s store to boost sales. This has resulted in double-digit sales growth in the mentioned years.
In 2020, the band’s sales reached 328.5 billion, but by 2023, they had tripled to 1.0456 trillion KRW, a clear demonstration of Jisoo’s significant influence and impact on their domestic fan base. As the leader of the beauty and fashion department, she spearheaded efforts to raise prices and expand store locations, with a particular focus on popular bags and accessories.
In July 2023, there was a 15% increase in the prices of bags and accessory products, which was then followed by a rise in the cost of jewelry. Additionally, Dior expanded its offerings by introducing a new line of high-quality and affordable baby products, known as Baby Dior.
At the same time, Dior announced Jisoo as their global ambassador and described her with the following words:
“Jisoo embodies with her singular audacity, the House’s modernity and the passionate creativity” of Chiuri, and would also “perfectly incarnate the empowering makeup” created by Peter Philips, creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup.”
Most recently, the BLACKPINK member made an appearance at the Dior Autumn/Winter 2024–25 ready-to-wear show, which took place at the Jardin des Tuileries during Paris Fashion Week. She caught everyone’s attention with her all-black ensemble consisting of a mini blazer and shorts, paired with a black-patterned Miss Dior bag. To complete her look, she added a black tie, ribbon hair ties, triple-toned platform pumps, and a buckle belt.
Prior to becoming a global ambassador for the Maison, the idol served as a local ambassador for the cosmetics brand Dior Beauty and was also named as Dior’s muse. She then went on to model for the Fall/Winter 2020 collection for the brand.
In May 2021, she collaborated with Maison for the first time and was featured in the Dior Fall 21 and Vespa campaigns. She also modeled the Diro Addict Lip Glow lip balm.
