As anticipation built for the release of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the studio emphasized its extensive development period, allowing for a keen focus on its campaign, zombies, and multiplayer elements. Additionally, it marked a milestone as the first title in the franchise to be available on Game Pass from day one, a detail that has not gone unnoticed by gaming enthusiasts.
The results of this strategic approach are now evident, as Microsoft is enjoying significant success. During the recent earnings call, CEO Satya Nadella disclosed that Black Ops 6 has achieved the highest launch numbers in the history of the Call of Duty series:
“The launch of Black Ops 6 last week was unprecedented, setting records for the highest number of day one players and a surge in Game Pass subscriptions on the day of release.”
This title made its debut across a wide range of platforms, including Steam, Battle.net, Microsoft Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It is expected that the forthcoming Nintendo hardware will also support this game, as per Microsoft’s commitments.
While Nadella did not specify player numbers for each platform, he did mention that sales on Steam and PlayStation platforms have surged by 60% compared to last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, highlighting a substantial increase for the franchise.
“This illustrates our strategy to engage gamers by providing access to more games across the various devices they prefer,”he noted. Additional statistics about this record-breaking release are expected to emerge from Xbox’s social media channels soon.
With the launch now complete, Treyarch is set to unveil the first seasonal content update for Black Ops 6. Fans can look forward to the return of the beloved Nuketown map, which will be available for free on November 1.
