Black Ops 6 Reveals Alex Mason’s Fate 12 Years Later
Black Ops 6 has at last unveiled the destiny of the beloved character Alex Mason, over a decade after the launch of Black Ops 2. In a recent YouTube video from Call of Duty titled Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – The Story So Far, developers delve into the narrative that led to the upcoming installment. They explore the fate of Alex Mason as portrayed in Black Ops 2, alongside the overarching timeline of the franchise.
Is Alex Mason Returning in Black Ops 6?
After much debate among fans, it has been officially revealed that Alex Mason met his demise in Black Ops 2. Therefore, he will not be part of the core group in Black Ops 6. While alternate endings in Black Ops 2 hint at Mason’s survival, the canonical storyline confirms that he dies when Frank Woods is manipulated into shooting him, effectively concluding Mason’s arc.
The narrative initiates back in 1961, where Woods, Mason, and Hudson spend almost seven years thwarting plans related to CIA sleeper agents, a mission that ultimately entangles Mason himself.
The events in Black Ops Cold War follow, showcasing Woods, Mason, Hudson, and Russell Adler as they prevent nuclear disaster worldwide while dismantling the operations of Perseus. Similar to the previous game, there’s also an alternate outcome where players can eliminate Woods and his team, which does not reflect the official timeline.
In 1986, the team confronts Raul Menendez (from Black Ops 2), who is at the helm of the Panama Cartel. This installment leaves numerous unanswered questions, including what ultimately happens to Mason. So, what transpires in Black Ops 2?
For newcomers to the series, in BO2, during a crucial operation against the cartel, Woods accidentally kills Menendez’s sister.
This act ignites a vengeful path for Raul, who is determined to make Woods suffer. Menendez, along with his cohorts, cunningly orchestrates the circumstances leading to Woods unwittingly shooting his close friend Mason, after which Raul purposely cripples him to a life of regret over his best friend’s death.
This sequence of events definitively establishes that Alex Mason was killed in action, effectively dispelling the long-held theories regarding his survival. Moving forward, we reach the year 1991, marking the commencement of the storyline in BO6.
The video also clarifies the chronological order of the Black Ops titles: starting with Black Ops 1, followed by Black Ops Cold War, then Black Ops 2 (excluding David Mason’s storyline), with Black Ops 6 arriving last.
This encompasses all the essential details regarding the ultimate fate of Alex Mason in the Black Ops saga.
