Black Ops 6 Launch: Excluding One of the Most Hated Weapons in Call of Duty History

Fans of the Call of Duty franchise may find it refreshing to know that Black Ops 6 will not include any of the most disliked weapons from the past few years. No Riot Shield in the Black Ops 6 Launch Weapons

As stated in the official blog update, the highly anticipated Black Ops 6 will not include the Riot Shield among its weapons. For those unfamiliar with this equipment, it is a large protective barrier designed to block bullets, typically used in conjunction with a melee weapon by players.

Longtime Call of Duty enthusiasts will recognize that the Riot Shield has stirred considerable debate in the community over the last four years. Initially introduced in Modern Warfare (2019), it has been a staple of Warzone since its inception in 2020.

As the popularity of battle royale surged, the Riot Shield gained notoriety, albeit not positively. While some players consider using it to highlight a skill gap, many in the gaming community argue that wielding a powerful shield in a first-person shooter can lead to frustrating experiences and inequitable combat.

This feedback appears to have reached Activision, prompting the decision to exclude the Riot Shield from Black Ops 6 at launch. Nevertheless, there remains a possibility that this weapon could be introduced later as additional content for Warzone and Black Ops 6. Furthermore, Warzone aficionados shouldn’t celebrate too much over this news, as the Riot Shield from Modern Warfare 2 will still be available as carry-over content.
