Indefinite Delay of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series S Explained
Feng Ji, the director of the highly anticipated action-adventure game Black Myth: Wukong, has shed light on the indefinite postponement of its release for the Xbox Series S. Known by his nickname Yocar, he attributed this delay to the console’s limited storage capabilities, which proved challenging for the developers.
This revelation is particularly disheartening for Xbox enthusiasts who were eagerly awaiting the launch of the game, which has already garnered immense popularity on both PlayStation and PC platforms. Yocar expressed his disappointment, stating that the Xbox version has fallen short of joining what has otherwise been a remarkable year for the game’s reception.
Technical Limitations Cited as Main Factor
In a detailed post on Weibo, Yocar elaborated on the technical difficulties faced by the developers due to the Xbox Series S’s “10GB shared memory.” He mentioned that without “a few years of optimization experience,”launching the game on this less powerful console simply wasn’t feasible.
Clearing Up Misunderstandings Regarding Exclusivity
The director’s comments also aim to dispel rumors surrounding potential exclusivity agreements with PlayStation. Many fans speculated that the absence of an Xbox release was due to a deal behind the scenes; however, Yocar clarified that the postponement stemmed from technical constraints rather than any contractual obligations.
Historical Challenges with the Xbox Series S
This situation is not unique to Black Myth: Wukong. Other game studios, such as Funcom and Larian, have previously voiced their struggles with optimizing games for the Xbox Series S’s limited specifications. This has raised ongoing concerns within the industry regarding the console’s impact on game development.
Optimism for Future Xbox Release
Despite the setbacks, Yocar ended his statement on a positive note. He shared his pride in the game’s reception, particularly its success at the recent Steam Awards, where it won three accolades, including the prestigious Game of the Year award. This recognition further fuels his determination to ensure that Black Myth: Wukong eventually makes its way to the Xbox platform.
In light of these developments, both fans and gamers are left anticipating a future where they can experience Black Myth: Wukong on their Xbox Series S consoles, hopefully once the technical challenges are addressed.
