Developer Insights: Judas Progress and Villainy Feature Unveiled
Since its official announcement in 2022, the development team at Ghost Story Games, previously known as Irrational Games, has maintained a veil of secrecy surrounding their upcoming title, Judas. Today, the studio broke silence with its first developer update, shedding light on the current status of the game and introducing an exciting gameplay feature dubbed Villainy.
In the newly released developer log, the team addressed the lengthy hiatus, stating, “We know, we’ve been quiet for a while. Crafting marketing materials such as trailers requires substantial time and energy, which we’ve redirected towards completing Judas.” They expressed a desire to reconnect with the gaming community, leading to the decision to share development logs regularly.
Ghost Story Games emphasizes its intention to provide more frequent updates without revealing too much about Judas. The updates will be straightforward, lacking the flashy trailers or polished visuals commonly associated with major game releases.
Introducing Villainy: A Unique Gameplay Element
The standout feature in this latest development phase is Villainy. This innovative mechanic allows players to determine who becomes the antagonist as they navigate the game. Drawing inspiration from the acclaimed Nemesis system found in Shadow of Mordor, the precise function of this feature remains somewhat ambiguous. It’s uncertain whether players will engage with one ultimate villain or if there will be an array of side experiences that influence the narrative’s direction.

The developer elaborated on the Villainy mechanic, stating, “In Judas, your choices will draw the attention of the Big 3, who may become your allies. However, if you neglect one long enough, they turn into the VILLAIN.” This transformation grants the antagonist an array of powers aimed at undermining the player’s objectives.
The Big 3: Allies or Adversaries?
As players traverse the game, they will form connections with the Big 3 characters, making the decision to abandon them particularly challenging. The team shared, “The Big 3 will vie for your loyalty, offering bribes, assisting you in battles, taunting rivals, and revealing their secret pasts.” Ultimately, players will need to discern whom to trust and who poses a threat.
As of now, a definitive release date for Judas remains unannounced. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PC via the Steam and Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
