Big Planet Addresses Yerin Baek’s Plagiarism Claims Against Love Next Door OST, ‘What Are We’ — Clarifying Ha Sung-woon’s Involvement
On Friday, October 4, Big Planet, the agency representing South Korean singer Ha Sung-woon, addressed the recent plagiarism allegations made by Yerin Baek. On October 3, Yerin Baek took to her Instagram stories to claim that her 2019 track, “0301”from the album Every Letter I Sent You, had been plagiarized in the Love Next Door OST titled “What Are We.”
This original soundtrack was performed by Ha Sung-woon, leading Yerin Baek to accuse him of plagiarizing her work.
While Big Planet seemingly acknowledged the possibility of plagiarism in the creation of the Love Next Door OST “What Are We,”they clarified that Ha Sung-woon was neither responsible for nor involved in the alleged infringement. Here is a portion of the statement released by Big Planet in response to Yerin Baek’s claims:
“We would like to reiterate that Ha Sung-woon had nothing to do with the plagiarism, and we hope that Yerin Baek and the OST production company can resolve the matter amicably.”
Yerin Baek’s Instagram Story on Plagiarism Accusations Regarding Ha Sung-woon’s Love Next Door OST
On Thursday, October 3, Yerin Baek shared a story on her Instagram regarding the Love Next Door OST, “What Are We.”In her post, she stated:
“It must you to suck copying. feel bad. If you want a song like mine, Please ask me so:)
Along with her statement, she included a video of the “What Are We”OST to highlight the similarity she perceived. In response to Yerin Baek’s accusations, CJ ENM, the OST production company for Love Next Door, issued a statement indicating that they are still investigating the allegations and determining whether the track resembles her work:
“We are checking it.”
Given that the OST was performed by Ha Sung-woon, many of the plagiarism accusations were also directed at him. Big Planet clarified that the singer did not partake in the song’s development. Their statement elaborated:
“Regarding the plagiarism allegations raised by singer Yerin Baek on social media today concerning Ha Sung-woon’s OST from the drama ‘Love Next Door,’ Ha Sung-woon and Big Planet Made Entertainment were only commissioned by the drama’s OST production company to participate as vocalists and were not involved in the writing, composing, or arranging of the song.”
The statement further indicated:
“Nevertheless, we sincerely regret that Ha Sung-woon’s OST has been accused of plagiarism, and we apologize for the distress caused to our fans.”
Meanwhile, the tvN and Netflix K-drama series Love Next Door is set to air its finale on October 6, 2024. Enthusiastic fans and netizens are eager to witness how the plot concludes as the series approaches its end.
