Bethesda Shares In-Depth Look at Fallout 76 Ghoul Experience

Exciting News for Fallout 76: Play as a Ghoul!

Starting tomorrow, Bethesda Game Studios will unlock the Fallout 76 Public Test Server (PTS), giving players the thrilling opportunity to assume the role of a Ghoul for the very first time in the franchise. This new feature comes in the wake of the significant popularity of the character Cooper Howard, portrayed by Walton Goggins, from the recent TV adaptation.

Unique Ghoul Gameplay Features

Players can expect a highly engaging endgame experience while playing as a Ghoul. The related questline is available only to those who reach level 50, and players will enjoy extensive customization options, including different designs and skin textures for their characters. According to the developers, Ghouls will have access to “dozens of alternate ways”to specialize their abilities, enhancing their gameplay.

Health Mechanics: Radiological Advantage

One of the most intriguing aspects of playing as a Ghoul is their unique health mechanics. Unlike other characters, Ghouls are not just resistant to radiation; they actually benefit from it. Standing on radioactive materials can heal your character when they are injured, and any excess radiation accumulates into a new resource known as Glow. Depending on a player’s specialization, Glow can provide a variety of beneficial effects, enriching gameplay diversity.

Exclusive Perks and Survival Challenges

In addition to their unique health benefits, Ghouls will be able to wield 32 exclusive perk cards, offering fresh avenues for character progression that differ from those available to human characters. Interestingly, Ghouls do not experience the usual challenges of hunger or thirst; instead, they must monitor a feral meter. If a Ghoul succumbs to full feral status, they will face penalties such as decreased hit points and lower weapon accuracy, although they will gain enhanced hand-to-hand combat abilities, allowing for a more aggressive playstyle.

Interaction with NPCs and Factions

Interactions with various factions and NPCs will differ significantly based on the player’s choice to play as a Ghoul. For instance, the Brotherhood of Steel is known for its disdain toward ghouls, yet players will not be denied access to their storylines. Instead, this choice is expected to unlock new narrative paths, enriching the overall gaming experience. Additionally, Bethesda promises that there will be in-game methods to disguise one’s Ghoul status, adding another layer of strategy. Furthermore, players will have the option to revert to human form a single time at no cost.

Looking Ahead: Release Timeline and Updates

While no specific release date has been announced for this Ghoul update, Bethesda aims for a rollout in early 2025. This announcement follows the recent addition of the “Gleaming Depths,”a brand-new raid experience that offers an MMO-style dungeon challenge for teams of four players, featuring five rigorous encounters to seize new four-star legendary weapons.

Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to experience the wasteland through the eyes of a Ghoul!
