Bend Studio has offered a reassuring message to its fanbase regarding upcoming endeavors. The PlayStation first-party team recently faced the cancellation of its AAA live-service project during a portfolio review. Despite this setback, the studio’s confidence remains intact as it looks ahead.
The studio, which has experienced internal shifts surrounding the potential sequel to the 2019 hit, Days Gone, previously announced in June 2022 its plans to develop an entirely new IP. While details on this new venture have largely been kept confidential, it was noted that the game would expand on Days Gone’s open-world mechanics and include multiplayer features. Recent leaks hinted that the unannounced game might be positioned as a live-service open-world military shooter.
Regrettably, this ambitious project has now been halted following the cancellation by PlayStation. The announcement came as a shock to the devout fans of Bend Studio, many of whom have waited close to six years for new offerings from the team. Yet, the studio appears to be undeterred by the cancellation. In a recent tweet, community manager Kevin McAllister acknowledged the outpouring of support from fans and reinforced the commitment to continue producing “cool sh*t.”
Bend Studio Commits to Innovative Game Development

The cancellation news was paired with information that PlayStation is collaborating with Bend Studio to pinpoint its next project. Fortunately, Bend Studio remains optimistic about its ability to create a compelling game. With PlayStation reevaluating its focus on live-service titles, there’s potential for the next endeavor to fall back on a single-player experience.
This development has sparked a renewed interest among fans lobbying for a Days Gone sequel. Although Bend Studio had previously quelled expectations for such a project, mounting fan demand could sway the studio’s direction. Rumors have surfaced suggesting a remaster of Days Gone for PS5 and possibly PC is in the works. Given that Days Gone sold millions of copies on PS4, the success of this potential remaster may play a crucial role in determining whether a sequel receives the green light.
