Benchmark Results: AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 Scores on Geekbench, Radeon 840M Outperforms 740M by 19% in OpenCL Tests

Recent testing has revealed promising OpenCL performance metrics for AMD’s budget-friendly Ryzen AI 5 340 Krackan Point CPU, showcasing its integrated GPU (iGPU) capabilities for the first time through Geekbench.

AMD officially introduced its cost-effective Zen 5-based Krackan Point series during CES, although the widespread availability of these processors might take additional time. Early performance tests have begun to surface, providing insight into the functionality of this new lineup. Notably, the Krackan Point series includes two models tailored for mainstream users and two designed for commercial applications.

Focusing on the more affordable segment, the lineup consists of the Ryzen AI 7 350 and Ryzen AI 5 340, both designed with a hybrid architecture that incorporates Zen 5 and Zen 5c technologies. The Ryzen AI 5 340 specifically includes three Zen 5 cores coupled with three Zen 5c cores and has recently been tested on Geekbench. This evaluation concentrated on its integrated Radeon 840M graphics, which is a successor to the Radeon 740M found in earlier Phoenix Point mobile APUs.

The Radeon 840M achieved a score of 14, 285 in the OpenCL test, marking a significant performance increase of approximately 19% over the Radeon 740M’s score of 11, 991 from a recent benchmark. Although this improvement is commendable, it is essential to note that the Radeon 840M, similar to its predecessor, is the entry-level option among RDNA 3.5-based iGPUs, equipped with just four GPU Compute Units. This aspect naturally limits its performance in practical scenarios when set against the Radeon 860M in the Ryzen AI 7 350, which boasts eight GPU Compute Units.

As an entry-level APU tailored for mobile devices, the Ryzen AI 5 340 reaches clock speeds of up to 3.4 GHz for its Zen 5c cores and 4.8 GHz for its Zen 5 cores. However, it’s important to highlight that the Radeon 840M operates at a mere 100 MHz slower than the Radeon 860M, and features fewer cores overall. In comparison to the Radeon 860M, which scored 26, 401 points, the Radeon 840M is about 54% slower in terms of Geekbench OpenCL performance.

When we further analyze the Radeon 840M against the high-end Radeon 890M, the latter shows a remarkable advantage, being 257% faster due to its configuration with 12 Compute Units. AMD’s current offerings now feature a comprehensive range of Zen 5 processors designed to cater to various budget categories, including the economical Krackan Point, the mid-tier Strix Point, and the premium Strix Halo models.

It is vital to remember that benchmark results can vary significantly across different tests, and as testing continues, we can anticipate seeing fluctuating scores. Nonetheless, the initial Geekbench findings provide a valuable glimpse into the Radeon 840M’s capabilities. We eagerly await further evaluations of the Ryzen AI 5 340’s performance in both single-core and multi-core testing.
