The Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 finale showcased Captain Sandy’s heartfelt proposal to her partner Leah Shafer. Preparations for this significant event were aided by the crew, although tensions surfaced among the cast members due to past conflicts.

As many fans are aware, Carrie’s introduction created a rift between Ellie and Aesha. Ellie aspired to step into the chief stew role under Aesha’s mentorship but felt that Carrie had usurped her position. Aesha, on the other hand, was impressed by Carrie’s skills and was perplexed as to why Ellie perceived favoritism towards the new crew member.

In episode 17, Ellie felt overlooked when Aesha selected other crew members to assist with Sandy’s proposal preparations. This led to Ellie expressing her discontent about the chief stew’s choice, prompting remarks from her fellow co-workers about her complaints and behavior.

The Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 finale, episode 17, titled Happily Ever After, premiered exclusively on Bravo TV on September 23, 2024. The episode’s synopsis is as follows:

“The crew work closely to ensure Captain Sandy’s proposal goes off without a hitch, but unexpected challenges arise; a new romance ignites on the final crew night out.”

What transpired in Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 17?

In season 9 episode 17 of Below Deck Mediterranean, Aesha expressed to the cameras that she felt “gaslighted”by Ellie. According to the chief stew, Ellie’s unpredictable behavior left her uncertain about what Dubaich was experiencing. Meanwhile, Ellie tried to take on additional responsibilities to “prove”her worth to Aesha for a potential promotion. Ellie stated:

“At this point, everything I do is wrong. I am trying to prove to my boss that I can do this job. How is she supposed to write a reference saying I could be a good chief stew if she’s never seen any leadership skills from me?”

As preparations for the proposal commenced, crew members Joe Bradley, Gael Cameron, and Carrie O’Neill, along with Aesha, departed from the boat. Before their exit, Scott entrusted Ellie with overseeing the yacht. However, Ellie felt sidelined when she wasn’t selected to assist with Captain Sandy’s engagement ceremony. In her confessional interview, Ellie expressed:

“I am definitely feeling down. Aesha didn’t pick me to participate in Captain Sandy’s engagement which would have been such an honor for me. I feel like all the work I have done this entire season is for nothing.”

Following this, Ellie confided her feelings to crew members Bri Muller, Nathan Gallager, Iain Maclean, and Johnathan Shillingford. Bri indicated that Ellie might be complaining excessively, while Nathan commented on the cameras that Dubaich was exhibiting “bitterness”and “spite”towards Carrie. He added:

“Just because Carrie has come in now and took the attention away from you, you are being bitter? You are being spiteful? Not everything is about you, Ellie.”

Bri expressed that she could understand Ellie’s frustration over not being involved in the engagement preparations but also mentioned that Ellie should respect Aesha’s decision to choose Carrie, as she is the chief stew.
