Bellatores MMORPG Launches Korean CBT on Steam with Action Combat and Unreal Engine 5

Exciting Developments for Bellatores: Closed Beta Test Announced

Nyou, a prominent South Korean game developer, has shared significant updates regarding its anticipated PC MMORPG, Bellatores. Gamers can look forward to signing up for a Closed Beta Test (CBT) starting on July 8. The testing phase is scheduled to take place over five days, running from July 30 to August 3. During this period, participants will have the opportunity to choose from two of the five noble Houses and experience fundamental aspects of the game, including combat, skill development, and progression.

CEO Insights on Player Engagement

In a recent statement, CEO Jung Hwan Kim emphasized the studio’s commitment to player feedback:

Through this CBT, we aim to evaluate whether Bellatores delivers the gameplay experience we envision, in collaboration with the players. We plan to actively incorporate player feedback.

Technological Advancements: Moving to Unreal Engine 5

Previously discussed in our interview with Mr. Kim, Bellatores was initially being developed using Unreal Engine 4, featuring a tab-targeting combat system reminiscent of earlier MMOs like World of Warcraft and EverQuest. However, Nyou has made a strategic pivot to Unreal Engine 5 and is now embracing a dynamic, action-oriented combat style. This new approach incorporates weapon-switching mechanisms and stamina management, creating a more thrilling and immersive combat experience.

Innovative Mastery-Based Progression System

The latest developer diary entry from Producer Lee Gi Baek unveiled Bellatores’ unique skill-based progression system:

A key feature of Bellatores is its Mastery based progression. Instead of following fixed class paths or a linear leveling system, players will accumulate Mastery in different aspects of combat, survival, or crafting based on the weapons they use and the activities they engage in. As you accumulate Mastery and reach certain milestones, you will unlock unique abilities or new combat styles. This approach to player progression will allow for players to experience different playstyles that will change based on what Masteries you acquire.

Crafting Mastery: A Core Component of Gameplay

Crafting in Bellatores is set to be an integral part of the gameplay, where Crafting Mastery significantly impacts a player’s efficiency and potential rewards. Players’ crafting Mastery will determine:

  • Crafting efficiency
  • Resource yields
  • Chances of creating rare items

Unlike traditional MMORPGs where equipment might drop from enemies, in Bellatores, all crafted items will be obtained through crafting processes or trading with other players. This creates an engaging community dynamic as players will need to collaborate to attain various crafting skills, further emphasizing teamwork.

Community Interaction and Personalized Play Style

In a bid to foster community interaction, players will face limitations on the number of Expert Masteries they can earn, ensuring that individual players cannot dominate all aspects of the game alone. This design encourages collaborative play, a vital component of MMORPGs. As players specialize in different Masteries, they will cultivate unique identities that influence their gameplay experiences, encompassing aspects such as combat, survival strategies, crafting abilities, and even economic and political dynamics.
