Behaviour Interactive Acquires Red Hook Studios, Creator of Darkest Dungeon and Developer of Dead By Daylight

Red Hook Studios, an indie game development company based in Vancouver, known for creating the popular Darkest Dungeon series, has been acquired by Behaviour Interactive, the studio famous for its survival horror game franchise, Dead by Daylight.

This acquisition was first reported by GameIndustry.biz, highlighting that the 29 members of Red Hook Studios will retain their independence while operating under the Behaviour Interactive brand. Financial details regarding the acquisition have not been disclosed.

Behaviour Interactive also shared the announcement on its X account, stating:

We look forward to supporting Red Hook as they continue to do what they do best: put your sanity to the test.

Founded in 2013 by director Chris Bourassa and lead designer Tyler Sigman, Red Hook Studios began as a two-person team and later expanded. They successfully launched the original Darkest Dungeon in 2016 after a year in Early Access. The sequel, Darkest Dungeon II, entered Early Access in 2021 and saw its full release in 2023. Collectively, the two titles have surpassed seven million copies sold. Details on the next project from Red Hook Studios remain undisclosed.

This acquisition arrives following a challenging period for Behaviour Interactive in 2024. The company announced significant layoffs in June and revealed earlier this month that the development of a Dead by Daylight spin-off game, codenamed Project T, had been canceled, along with the closure of the studio responsible for the project, Seattle-based Midwinter Entertainment.
