Beat Saber Developer Announces End of Content Updates for PlayStation
Beat Games, the studio behind the acclaimed VR title Beat Saber, has made a significant announcement regarding future content updates for the game on PlayStation platforms. Effective June 18, 2025, there will be no new content released for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 (PS5) versions, which include the PS VR and PS VR2 iterations.
Despite this news, the game will continue to be available for purchase. Additionally, players who have previously bought songs and expansions will still have access to their content. The final track to be added to the Beat Saber library on PlayStation will be Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra.”
“As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025, ”Beat Games stated in an announcement shared on their Beat Saber X account.
“Our passion for VR remains unwavering. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years.”
The developers expressed gratitude for the community’s support and excitement for where Beat Saber is headed. While new content updates will cease after today’s date, players can still enjoy multiplayer features until January 21, 2026, after which these functionalities will be discontinued for both PS5 and PS4 users.
The Legacy of Beat Saber in Virtual Reality
Since its launch in 2018, Beat Saber has been a cornerstone of the VR gaming experience, often touted as a must-have title for new headset owners. Its recent availability on the PS VR2 in May 2023 marked a significant moment for both the game and PlayStation’s VR offerings.
However, this decision raises concerns about the future of VR on PlayStation consoles, especially as high-profile titles like Beat Saber withdraw support so swiftly from the latest hardware. This trend is particularly worrying for VR enthusiasts and industry observers, who may question the sustainability of PlayStation’s VR ecosystem.
As the industry evolves and developers pivot towards emerging technologies and platforms, the fate of beloved titles like Beat Saber remains an essential topic for discussion among gamers and VR advocates alike.
