‘Be Kind to Us, It Will Pay Off’: Charlote Nicado Discusses the Shocking Moment in ‘Mythic Quest’

The conclusion of Mythic Quest season 4 has left fans reeling with numerous plot developments to ponder, with particular emphasis on the significant turn of events that transpired. An eager audience now anticipates answers as we wait for a potential fifth season.

From the finale, it has become evident that Poppy and Ian are destined to share a deep connection, whether it unfolds romantically or remains within the sphere of friendship and collaboration. Personally, I have yearned to witness a romantic evolution between these two characters, and the dramatic conclusion hints at just such a direction.

In conjunction with the finale’s release, I had the opportunity to speak with Charlotte Nicado, who portrays Poppy. During our discussion, she emphasized that the show’s development was thoroughly considered.

In our conversation, Nicado shared insights about Poppy’s journey, her significant moments with Ian, and audience reactions. You can delve into our conversation below.

The Mary Sue:

To begin, it’s noteworthy how this season finale reinforces the idea I’ve long held about Ian and Poppy being soulmates, regardless of whether that connection is romantic. Throughout the series, their attraction to each other has been palpable. Was this understanding part of your discussions as the show progressed, or was it inherent from the beginning?

Charlotte Nicado:

Absolutely! From the very outset, their dysfunctional relationship served as a critical anchor for the series. However, the profound significance of their bond has revealed itself more organically over time. A pivotal moment was the quarantine episode we produced at the end of season one, which highlighted how integral these two characters were to one another as creative partners, especially during challenging times.

This episode catalyzed a deeper exploration of their relationship, helping us to uncover the nuances involved. What was striking was how they came to realize their importance to each other in a way they hadn’t before. Their relationship is unique and complex; they rely on each other professionally and personally, and their individual flaws often find solace in one another’s imperfections. Thus, despite attempts to cultivate healthier interactions, chaos always seems to reintegrate into their dynamic.

The Mary Sue:

Watching this show has led to interesting perspectives among fans. I, for one, and my roommate—a fellow journalist—have opposing views on whether Ian and Poppy should engage in a romantic kiss, which illustrates the varied opinions of our viewers.

Charlotte Nicado:

It’s fascinating to hear different opinions! Throughout our discussions, we’ve been aware of the emotional investment fans have in the show. The opportunity to create four seasons, especially in today’s context, is a rarity, and we’re grateful to our audience for their support. With that in mind, we recognize the risks involved in pursuing bold story arcs, particularly with characters as beloved as Ian and Poppy. There will undoubtedly be divided reactions, with some fans delighted by the development and others feeling heartbroken over the change.

However, I assure everyone that we have given careful consideration to this pivotal moment. We are mindful of its impact on these characters and confident that the subsequent narrative will provide substantial payoff for their journey together.

The Mary Sue:

While you’re not in need of convincing me, I’ll definitely advocate for how worthwhile this story progression is. Moreover, it’s heartening to witness the level of dedication among the cast and crew, where every individual plays a significant role in shaping the show. What makes this collaboration so special for you as an actor? Comedy often thrives on collaborative efforts, yet Mythic Quest seems to uniquely excel in this regard.

Charlotte Nicado:

This collaborative spirit is indeed exceptional. Much credit goes to Rob McElhenney, who has fostered an atmosphere where everyone’s voice is valued. Personally, landing the role of Poppy came at a time when I was contemplating leaving Hollywood, having struggled for years during pilot seasons. Playing Poppy has truly been a dream, and now, directing episodes and engaging deeply with writers and crew has enriched my experience significantly.

I fear this incredible journey has set a high bar for any future roles. My hope is firmly rooted in continuing the Mythic Quest journey!

The Mary Sue:

Absolutely, we all want more Mythic Quest! It’s intriguing to observe how Poppy’s character embraces her individuality, from her gray streak to her glasses. How liberating is it for you to embody a character so comfortable in her own skin?

Charlotte Nicado:

It’s incredibly liberating! When I received highlights in my hair recently, I found myself contemplating the implications for Poppy’s character and her signature gray streak. Poppy’s authenticity shines, particularly during moments where she dresses up – which hilariously exaggerated my discomfort in that role. Thank goodness her character doesn’t subscribe to conventional norms that require her to wear uncomfortable clothing daily!

The Mary Sue:

That’s so amusing! I recently had a conversation with Adria Arjona regarding a film role where she navigated similar experiences, preferring a more natural makeup look. I find it refreshing when women assert their needs like that.

Charlotte Nicado:

This season was an adventure, especially as I navigated my pregnancy. By the time we shot that pivotal kiss scene, I was eight months along. Hiding the pregnancy during filming was challenging, and I felt relieved that Poppy’s character allowed for plenty of baggy clothing that helped disguise my condition early in the season.

The Mary Sue:

That kiss will definitely linger in my mind! Thank you for this engaging conversation; I genuinely love this show and aspire for more seasons of Mythic Quest. I can’t wait to see how fans react to that moment!

Charlotte Nicado:

It’s thrilling and slightly nerve-wracking! We hope everyone goes easy on us. The journey ahead is going to be incredible.
