BBQ Chicken franchise reportedly launches first American YouTube ad featuring BTS Jungkook’s New York Times Square ‘Pomichodai’

Jungkook of BTS gained attention on the internet when a BBQ Chicken brand in the United States allegedly featured his Times Square performance in their YouTube ad. According to a report by Asian Economy and shared by user X (@Jungkook_SNS), the BBQ Chicken chain released their initial BBQ YouTube commercial, targeting the MZ Generation in the United States.

The 2023 Times Square show in New York City, featuring Jungkook, incorporated a range of recently coined Korean expressions that have gained popularity among the MZ generation in Korea. One of these terms, “Pomichodai,”translates to ‘slay.’

During one of GOLDEN’s listening parties on Stationhead, ARMYs were prompted to share the Korean translation for “slay”. BTS’ Jungkook then showed them how to say “pomichodai”.

In addition, for those who are unfamiliar, the term “MZ generation,”also known as MZ세대, is commonly used in South Korea to describe both Generation Z (born 1997–2012) and Millennials (born 1981–1996). This term, which combines “Millennials”and “Gen Z,”is frequently used to encompass individuals between the ages of 17 and 40.

BTS Jungkook’s Iconic Solo Performance at Times Square’s TSX Stage in 2023

On Thursday night, Jungkook from the popular K-pop group BTS surprised fans and commuters at New York City’s Times Square with an impromptu and exciting spectacle. The audience was left in awe as the talented artist performed songs from his debut solo album GOLDEN on the TSX stage.

Despite having a scheduled performance on November 8, 2023, at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, the impromptu performance by the artist ended up taking place at the TSX on November 9.

The 26-year-old member of BTS surprised his fans with a dedicated stage placed in the center of Times Square, New York City. He was seen wearing only Calvin Klein during his promotional events for GOLDEN in the United States.

The event was made possible by the support of Calvin Klein and Xbox, and those who were unable to attend in person could still watch it live on Xbox’s Twitch channel as dedicated fans.

Throughout his performance, the BTS idol continuously uttered “Pomichodai”into his microphone, causing his fans to enthusiastically chant along and fill Times Square with excitement. According to X user @Jungkook_SNS, this specific moment was even featured in a bb.q Chicken brand advertisement on YouTube.

The performer of The Hate You showcased songs from his first solo record, GOLDEN, such as Seven (feat. Latto), Yes or No, Please Don’t Change, and 3D (feat. Jack Harlow). His effortless command of the stage, fluid dance moves, and accompanying dancers resulted in a short yet flawless performance.

According to Billboard, Nick Holmsten, co-CEO of TSX Entertainment, conveyed his appreciation and great privilege of having Jungkook perform on the TSX stage, describing it as a historic moment.

Holmsten emphasized the importance of the South Korean musician’s performance at the TSX stage, highlighting its impact on both K-pop and Times Square.

“We are honored to co-create this historic moment for Jung Kook and the entire BTS group. His solo journey has already made history with multiple chart-topping singles, and we’re fully confident that this album will continue the trend. This marks a pivotal moment in music, particularly for K-pop fans, and holds great significance for both Times Square and New York City,” he said.
