Battlefield Game Set in Modern Era; First Concept Art Unveiled

Fans of Electronic Arts’ Battlefield military shooter franchise received exciting news today regarding the next installment of the series. According to IGN, the upcoming game will take place in the present day, and the first public concept artwork has also been revealed.

The concept art, which features elements partially hidden by the game’s logo, showcases aspects like naval engagements and even hints at a wildfire. IGN speculates that natural disasters may be incorporated into the new Battlefield experience.

In an interview, Vince Zampella, who is the head of EA’s Respawn Entertainment and serves as the Group General Manager for EA Studios, mentioned that after exploring settings in World War I, World War II, and a near-future scenario with the last entry in the series (Battlefield 2042), the team decided to return to a contemporary setting. He remarked:

I think for me, it’s that peak of Battlefield-ness is in that Battlefield 3 and 4 days. So I think it’s nostalgic for players, for me, for the teams even.

Zampella further noted that the next addition to the battlefield series will accommodate up to 64 players in online matches and will not feature the Specialist characters introduced in Battlefield 2042.

In February, EA Entertainment President Laura Miele announced that the company now boasts “the largest Battlefield team in the franchise’s history.”Four internal EA teams—DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion—are confirmed to be collaborating on this anticipated game.

While a release date has yet to be announced, Zampella did confirm that a community program for the upcoming title is planned to launch sometime in 2025. He emphasized the importance of rebuilding community trust, saying they want to “get the community back on our side.”
