The Return of Battle Royale in the Battlefield Franchise
The Battlefield series last ventured into battle royale territory in 2018 with the launch of Firestorm in Battlefield V, a mode designed for 64 players. Recently, Electronic Arts hinted at a potential revival of this popular game style with the announcement of Battlefield 6. As the release date approaches, anticipation builds as fresh details about the upcoming battle royale mode emerge.
New Testing Phases for Battle Royale
In a recent update from Battlefield Studios, it was announced that testing for a new battle royale experience is set to commence this week. Dubbed a “Battle Royale built on Battlefield’s unique DNA, ”the specifics regarding whether this mode will be available at the game’s initial launch or introduced later as a free-to-play offering remain unspecified.
Innovative Gameplay Features
The development team expressed excitement about integrating classic Battlefield elements into this new genre.“We see a great opportunity to infuse the core Battlefield pillars of class-based squad play, tactical destruction, and vehicle combat into the Battle Royale genre to create a high-stakes and adrenaline-pumping gameplay experience, ”they stated. This provides a unique twist on traditional battle royale formats while maintaining the franchise’s core principles.
Game Mechanics and Player Structure
While official gameplay footage is yet to be released, developers describe the battle royale map as ‘epic’, spotlighting the inclusion of transport and armored vehicles. Players will utilize these to navigate the map to reach various points of interest. Destruction continues to play a pivotal role, allowing players to use explosives on everything from walls to entire structures.
Each match will consist of 100 players divided into 25 teams of four, with the ultimate goal of being the last squad standing. Players can select from various classes, contributing to diverse team strategies, although class selection is locked once a match begins. Communication will be facilitated through a combination of in-game pings, text, and voice chat.

The Deadliest Ring in Battle Royale
In a departure from standard battle royale mechanics, the shrinking play area will be lethal even at its onset. The developers highlighted this feature, claiming it will be the “deadliest ring in BR.”As noted, “There’s no jumping in and out of it, no using it for cover, no walking through it – if you get caught in it, you are done, ”emphasizing the importance of strategic movement and positioning.
