EA’s Battlefield 6 Triumphs as Best-Selling Game in 2025
According to a recent report by Mat Piscatella, executive director at Circana and noted video game analyst, Battlefield 6 has emerged as the leading best-seller in the US for the year 2025. The efforts by EA and Battlefield Studios have evidently yielded substantial results, laying to rest many doubts regarding the franchise’s capability to outperform industry titans.
The Sales Rivals: Battlefield 6 vs. Call of Duty
Surpassing Call of Duty in sales has been a significant achievement for Battlefield 6, with many speculating whether it could genuinely compete with such a powerhouse. Notably, only Mike Ybarra had the foresight to predict this outcome back in August 2025, demonstrating remarkable insight into industry dynamics. Despite Black Ops 7 claiming the top monthly sales in December, it managed to secure only fifth place in overall annual sales for premium titles.
Top Performers in 2025
Other noteworthy games that stood out include Monster Hunter Wilds, which, despite experiencing technical difficulties on PC, launched strongly enough to clinch fourth place.Borderlands 4, also hindered by launch issues, managed a respectable third, while NBA 2K26 fell short at second, just shy of Battlefield 6’s phenomenal success.
Interestingly, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was the only title outside of the shooter or annual sports genres to break into the top ten alongside Monster Hunter Wilds.Ghost of Yotei, from Sucker Punch, narrowly missed the cut at eleventh but received positive acclaim. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Grand Theft Auto V remained a favorite, yet again appearing in the top twenty best-selling games.

Market Growth Highlights
Despite the impressive software sales, they weren’t the sole drivers behind the US video game market’s growth of 1.4% compared to 2024, culminating in a market valuation of $60.7 billion in 2025. Piscatella credits this rise primarily to mobile gaming, increased investment in hardware, particularly the Nintendo Switch 2, and surging subscription service revenues.
Interestingly, as Piscatella pointed out in another post, this boost in spending does not necessarily reflect a greater number of players investing in video games. Instead, it indicates an uptick in prices, including those of subscription services.
Leading Hardware: Nintendo Switch 2 Dominates
On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch 2 took the crown as the best-selling console in the US for 2025, achieving a remarkable milestone of 4.4 million units sold. Following closely in second place was the PlayStation 5, which still holds a strong position in the competitive console market.
