Electronic Arts (EA) has recently unveiled the much-anticipated Battlefield 6 in an action-packed trailer that has received an encouraging response, praised for its grounded approach—suggestive of a return to the franchise’s roots. Gamers will have a chance to experience the excitement first-hand during an early access beta commencing on August 7, with additional open betas scheduled for August 9-11 and August 14-17. However, PC players running Windows must activate a security feature to participate in the game.

According to a post from EA’s support team on X (formerly Twitter), players looking to jump into Battlefield 6 during the open beta are required to enable a feature called Secure Boot:

For those unfamiliar, Secure Boot is a security standard designed to ensure that a PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11 starts only trusted software. EA utilizes this feature to implement its Javelin anti-cheat system, which is essential for maintaining a level playing field by expunging players using unfair strategies. Although this measure is vital in competitive titles like Battlefield 6, enabling Secure Boot can be a burdensome task for some players.

To facilitate this process, EA has released a detailed guide to assist players in enabling Secure Boot, a procedure that may involve adjustments to BIOS settings, which can vary by manufacturer. This adds a layer of complexity for players who simply wish to enjoy Battlefield 6 without the hassle. Furthermore, EA has issued a security bulletin clarifying the necessity of Secure Boot, warning users that failure to activate it will lead to prompts during the game’s launch.

This policy is not unprecedented for EA. Earlier this year, the introduction of Patch 8.8.0 in Battlefield 2042 similarly required players to enable Secure Boot, sparking controversy at that time. It remains to be seen how the gaming community will react to this latest move with Battlefield 6.
