Bandai Namco Expands UGSF Series with New Title Announcement
Bandai Namco has made significant updates to its UGSF series webpage, launching five existing titles alongside the introduction of a brand-new game, Shadow Labyrinth. This exciting addition aligns with upcoming showcases at the 2024 Game Awards and the March 2025 Nintendo Direct, further integrating Shadow Labyrinth into the shared universe that includes iconic titles like Ace Combat, Dig Dug, Mr. Driller, and other classic Namco arcade games.
Understanding UGSF: A Historic Innovation in Gaming
The UGSF—short for United Galaxy Space Force—was conceived during the development of the arcade game Galaxian 3 in 1990, representing a thematic universe that encompasses a variety of Namco’s space-themed titles. Over time, as Namco evolved—culminating in a merger with Bandai—more original games were woven into this intricate timeline. This narrative officially commenced with the release of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere on PlayStation 1 in 1999, set in the year 2040. Notably, Electrosphere currently occupies the latest chronological position within the broader Strangereal universe of the Ace Combat series.
Shadow Labyrinth: A New Entry with Dark Mysteries
Shadow Labyrinth is strategically placed in the year 3333, occurring after the events of the unreleased arcade real-time strategy game, New Space Order, which spanned from 2845 to 3210. According to the updated webpage, the game will explore two past, failed operations on its setting planet—Operation Cheyenne in 3210 and Operation Panzer in 3300. Players will delve into the journey of main characters SwordMan and PUCK, who will disclose profound secrets linked to the entire universe’s fabric.
Additional Title Updates and Release Information
The updates on the UGSF series webpage in late March 2025 do not end with Shadow Labyrinth. Bandai Namco has also refreshed the list with four other notable entries: the 1994 arcade classic Nebulasray, the 1985 arcade hit Baraduke, its sequel Baraduke II from 1988, and Galaga Legions, which was released on Xbox 360 in 2008.
Excitingly, Shadow Labyrinth is set to launch globally across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC on July 18, 2025.
