Ballerina Unveils First Teaser and Confirms Trailer Release Date for John Wick Spinoff

The highly anticipated spinoff, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, has been quiet for a while, leaving many enthusiasts curious about the status of the Ana de Armas-led project. However, earlier today, Lionsgate finally released a teaser video, which also confirmed that the trailer is set to drop soon.

According to the latest teaser, while it does not showcase any significant scenes or sequences from the upcoming film, the full trailer will be available on September 26, 2024. This will offer fans their first look into the new movie that aims to further expand the John Wick universe.

This teaser did not reveal any characters, but the forthcoming trailer is expected to introduce them. Originally, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina was set for release this year; however, it was postponed to next year for additional filming.

The spinoff is now scheduled to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.

What is From the World of John Wick: Ballerina about?

Centered between the events of John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina features Ana de Armas in the lead role. The plot follows Rooney (Armas), who seeks vengeance against those responsible for her family’s murder. Given that it is set before the climactic events of the fourth film, it will also include Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Wick, possibly marking his final appearance in this iconic role.

In addition to Armas and Reeves, the cast includes Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane.

Although details about the storyline are scarce, the film’s timeline is significant. Ian McShane elaborated on this during an interview with Collider, stating:

“This one is set in between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, because Keanu is in it, too… You didn’t want to set it after John Wick 4, because then you’d have social media saying, ‘Oh, so he’s still alive! What’s he going to do next time? Is there a John Wick 5?!’ This way, you can still keep up the pretense that there might not be a John Wick 5.”

Initially, when this movie began production, many fans imagined it could be the fifth John Wick film. However, recent production updates confirm that Keanu Reeves’ character will not be returning in any future installments. Maintaining this course of action preserves the impactful ending of the fourth film, widely regarded as the franchise’s finest.

Nonetheless, Ballerina promises to bring John Wick back for one last dance, and hints of this may be evident in the trailer set to release tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates.
