Upon entering Créche Y’llek in Baldur’s Gate 3, players stumble across an intriguing document referencing the elusive Blood of Lathander, a potential game-changing weapon. During their exploration, they will also encounter a peculiar item known as the Strange Chunk of Amber, which intriguingly contains a few drops of blood. However, what players might initially think is a significant discovery turns out to be misleading.
This revelation prompts a key question: what exactly is this Strange Chunk of Amber, how does it relate to the Blood of Lathander, and what practical use does it serve in the game?

Fortunately, the answers to these questions are quite straightforward.
Understanding the Strange Chunk of Amber
When players first acquire the amber, the protagonist Tav expresses skepticism about its authenticity, questioning how this amber could represent the Blood referred to in the document, particularly given its minimal content.
This amber can be found deep within Créche Y’llek, specifically in a chamber linked to your encounter with Ch’r’ai W’wargaz, potentially involving combat. It rests in one of the adjacent rooms.
However, players should be aware that this amber is merely a diversion designed to mislead them from searching for the true Blood of Lathander. Unfortunately, it cannot be sold or discarded and can only be sent back to camp, occupying valuable inventory space.
The most strategic approach upon discovering this amber is simply to refrain from collecting it, unless the desire arises for a party member to attempt a religion check to gain further insights.
Aside from that, it serves purely as a decoy—nothing more, nothing less.
Locating the Actual Blood of Lathander
Before players discover the Strange Chunk of Amber, there’s an important preliminary action: explore a small room in the Rosymorn Monastery adorned with stained glass prior to entering Créche Y’llek.
Players can either solve a puzzle inside or send Astarion to pick the lock on a wall (DC 30).Successfully doing so will yield a document detailing the Blood of Lathander and a crest that is crucial for survival in subsequent encounters. Once you obtain the Strange Chunk of Amber, you’ll find two statues representing suns in the chamber.
Examining these statues reveals descriptions of the sun in various stages of rise and set. To proceed, rotate the statues so that the rising sun faces east and the setting sun faces west. This may require casting spells or throwing objects to manipulate the statues.
Once the statues are correctly positioned, a secret door will reveal itself, allowing access through a passage while disarming traps along the way. Eventually, players will arrive at an expansive room where the true Blood of Lathander is situated.
Utilizing the crest will grant a seamless acquisition of the coveted weapon. However, if the crest is missing, hope for a swift escape, as the entire Créche may collapse, posing an immediate threat to all involved.
