This guide will outline how to acquire the Gloves of Soul Catching in Baldur’s Gate 3, ensuring the survival of Hope and your own success.
Locating the Gloves of Soul Catching
To obtain the Gloves of Soul Catching, you must successfully complete the Save Hope quest. This quest takes you into the House of Hope, where your primary goal is to liberate Hope from her magical restraints and ensure her survival.
Bearing in mind, if Hope dies during your attempts to rescue her, you can still escape, but you will unfortunately forfeit the chance to claim the Gloves of Soul Catching. Let’s delve into the details of how to complete this essential quest.
Successfully Completing the Save Hope Quest
Your journey begins upon entering the House of Hope in Baldur’s Gate, where you will meet a peculiar Dwarf named Hope, who appears to be somewhat unaware of her surroundings.
Once you connect with Hope, the Save Hope quest will commence. Your next objective is to navigate to the Archive and procure the Orphic Hammer. To reach this location, head left from the central table.
Upon arrival at the Archives, Hope will make another appearance, providing information about the Archivist within. By successfully completing a Persuasion check, you will uncover that the Archivist is fearful of Verillious Receptor, a high-ranking inquisitor of Zariel.
Good rapport with the Archivist grants you an invitation to the Boudoir, allowing you to approach from the main entrance. Alternatively, you can bypass the Archives entirely by taking an outside route through a small door on the right side of the House, which requires some acrobatic skill to navigate.
Once you reach the Boudoir on the far side of the House, you will confront a succubus known as Haarlep.
During this engagement, you can either succumb to Haarlep’s charms or opt for an attack. If you choose to battle and successfully defeat Haarlep, you will gain the Helldusk Gloves in addition to the location of Raphael’s safe. Conversely, if you decide to cooperate with Haarlep, you can still provoke them by succeeding in a Constitution save, leading to the same rewards, including the safe’s key.
To access Raphael’s safe, press the button located beneath the painting to the left of the bed. You can then utilize the key or lockpicks to unlock it.
Before you take down the barrier surrounding the Orphic Hammer, it’s crucial to have a short rest or utilize the rejuvenation faucet in the Boudoir, as this action will trigger hostility from all within the House of Hope.
Once you remove the barrier, expect immediate confrontation as the entirety of the House will turn against you. Navigate your way back across the building toward a hatch that leads to the dungeon, where you’ll find Hope.
Inside the dungeon, you’ll find Hope secured in the center, with her arms bound to two large stones via magical beams. The dungeon is also populated by several Vengeful Imps and two Spectators.
It is advisable to eliminate all enemies before attempting to free Hope. Once the combatants are defeated, approach the crystals, and have a character equipped with the Orphic Hammer break them, thus freeing Hope.
As you make your exit from the House of Hope, you will encounter Raphael, Yurgir, and Korrilla. A conflict is inevitable, and you must defeat Raphael and his minions. During this confrontation, you have the option to persuade Yurgir to betray Raphael by succeeding in a Persuasion check.
Bear in mind that numerous high-level enemies will challenge you in this confrontation, but it remains vital to keep Hope alive. Should she fall, you will regret missing out on the Gloves of Soul Catching. Upon vanquishing Raphael with Hope still in one piece, she will graciously reward you with the coveted gloves.
Abilities of the Gloves of Soul Catching
The Gloves of Soul Catching bestow the following abilities:
- Soul Fist: Adds an extra 1-10 force damage to your unarmed strikes.
- Soul Catching: Once per turn on an unarmed hit, you regain 10 hit points or may choose to forgo healing to gain advantage on attack rolls and saving throws until your next turn ends.
- Constitution +2: Increases your Constitution score, up to a maximum of 20.
