Larian Studios Unveils Final Major Update for Baldur’s Gate 3
After much anticipation, Larian Studios has launched the highly anticipated final major update for its blockbuster role-playing game, Baldur’s Gate 3. This new update, known as Patch 8, introduces a wealth of features, most notably crossplay compatibility across all platforms and support for split-screen gameplay on the Xbox Series S.
A Fond Farewell from Larian Studios
In a heartfelt message shared through a blog post, Larian Studios expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “This is it. Our final major game patch for Baldur’s Gate 3. You’ve helped us make BG3 a bigger success than any of us could’ve ever hoped for.” While the major updates have concluded and the team shifts focus, they hinted at the possibility of smaller bug-fixing updates in the future.
Enhanced Multiplayer Experience
One of the standout features of this update is the innovative cross-platform play, allowing players on Windows, macOS, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 to team up seamlessly. This change is facilitated by the new Larian Network, which enables players to create mixed-platform parties. However, mod users should note that all players in a group must have identical mod setups when joining a session.
Modding Toolkit Updates
In addition to gameplay enhancements, Larian has expanded its official Modding Toolkit, empowering community creators with new editing functionalities. Although comprehensive level editing works are still limited, certain interactive modifications can now be made:
Partial level editing means that what you won’t be able to do with the official Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit is add dialogues or change the static parts of the world like buildings, scenery or terrain. You can, however, create your own interactive objects like a chest that teleports away every time you get close to it – no one will touch your belongings ever again! Including you. Or you could make a salami statue that you can put in your pocket. The world truly is yours.
New Subclasses Added
As part of this substantial update, several fresh subclasses have been introduced to enrich players’ gameplay experiences. The new subclasses are as follows:
- Path of the Giant Barbarian
- College of Glamour Bard
- Death Domain Cleric
- Circle of Stars Druid
- Arcane Archer Fighter
- Way of the Drunken Master Monk
- Oath of the Crown Paladin
- Swarmkeeper Ranger
- Swashbuckler Rogue
- Shadow Magic Sorcerer
- Hexblade Warlock
- Bladesinging Wizard
Additional Features and Improvements
The Patch 8 update not only introduces a long-anticipated photo mode, bolstering customization options, but also includes a host of bug fixes and optimizations. The split-screen mode for Xbox Series S has been eagerly awaited and is now available, enriching the multiplayer experience further.
