Bad Monkey Episode 8 Recap: The Active Role of the Russian Mob in Key West

Episode 8 of Bad Monkey season 1 premiered on Apple TV+ on September 25, 2024. The previous episode left Yancy, Rosa, Cody, and Yancy’s father in peril as a group of armed men was spotted outside Yancy’s residence. This episode continues directly from that suspenseful moment.

Episode 8 is aptly titled The Russian Mob Is Very Active in Key West, and the synopsis states:

“With Caitlin and Rosa’s help, Yancy cooks up a new plan to get Nick and Eve back to Miami.”

The Calm Before the Storm

The episode begins with Yancy and his guests discussing dinner plans. However, their peaceful evening is abruptly interrupted by gunfire, as armed intruders start shooting at Yancy’s home, shattering the glass doors and windows.

Yancy, Rosa, Cody, and Jim quickly take cover behind furniture, with Yancy turning off the lights to obscure the shooters’ vision. As Jim and Cody try to escape outside, they are halted by the armed men. Yancy bravely confronts the intruders, with Rosa even stabbing one with a fork.

In a shocking twist, Yancy discovers that Pestov is among the intruders. Pestov, equally surprised, informs Yancy that he was hired by Yancy’s neighbor to carry out this attack, but he was not aware whose house he was targeting initially. Realizing the mix-up, he expresses regret about the situation.

After Yancy learns of his neighbor’s involvement in the attack, he takes his rifle outside and fires several shots at the neighbor’s window. Miraculously, no one sustains serious injuries, and later that evening, Yancy invites the armed men to his home to dine together.

The following morning, after the chaos subsides, Yancy discusses Rosa with his father before heading to work, while his father departs for his cabin.

Bonnie Gets Arrested

The episode shifts focus to Bonnie, who is informed that Codie’s parents and the district attorney have decided not to file charges against her, leading to her release. Bonnie learns from Johnna, the agent, that her arrest was part of a personal agenda. Now cleared of all charges, Bonnie and Johnna prepare to return to Florida.

Once in Florida, Bonnie fills her G Wagon with gasoline and flirts with a young employee at the shop. Then, she goes to Yancy’s neighbor’s house and sets it ablaze. Meanwhile, Yancy and Rosa, unsuspectingly enjoying their evening, are stunned by the explosion.

Upon investigating, they encounter Bonnie, who meets Rosa for the first time and expresses her happiness for Yancy. However, the police arrive soon after to arrest Bonnie, who seems relieved to finally face the consequences of her actions.

The homeowner tries to bribe Sonny to drop charges against Bonnie, but Sonny is wary of the arson scheme and remains neutral.

The Dragon Queen Leaves the Island

Gracie, also known as the Dragon Queen, appears troubled early in the episode as she requests Egg to stay with her a bit longer. They later socialize with Eve and Nick on their new boat, where Gracie brazenly swipes Nick’s watch while he swims.

Neville observes their interactions and alerts Yancy, urging him to act before Eve and Nick can be caught. Unfortunately, Yancy finds himself unable to intervene, much to Neville’s frustration.

After enjoying champagne, Gracie and Egg leave the boat. On their return, Egg warns Gracie about Eve and Nick, but she dismisses his concerns, already aware of their dubious intentions. Their burgeoning romance hits a snag when Gracie learns that Egg vandalized Asia’s shop on Eve’s orders; upset, she tells Egg not to return that night.

Later, Gracie’s call to her Yaya reveals further disappointment, prompting Gracie to leave both Egg and the island seeking a fresh start and a chance at her dreams.

The Master Plan in Bad Monkey Episode 8

Yancy is determined to expedite Nick and Eve’s arrest and meets with Rhodes outside her office to strategize about luring the corrupt couple back to Miami.

Joining forces with Caitlin and Rosa, they devise a plan for Rosa, under an alias, to visit Andros to entice Eve and Nick by expressing interest in their property. Caitlin contacts Nick, who greedily welcomes the potential sale, excited as it marks a rare interaction with his daughter.

Yancy and Rosa travel to Andros to implement their strategy. They visit a local bar where they encounter Claspers, who serves as the jet pilot for Nick and Eve. After a few drinks and pleasant exchanges, the bar owner captures their moment in a Polaroid, which he displays on the restaurant’s wall.

The Plan is Well Executed, but There is a Loophole

In the latter part of episode 8, Rosa approaches Nick and Eve under her alias, exhibiting enthusiasm for their property and claiming she can pay in cash, on the condition they return to Miami to finalize the deal. Nick and Eve agree.

Flash forward to Rosa’s subsequent meeting with Neville and Yancy, where she excitedly shares the news that Eve and Nick are set to be arrested, allowing Neville to reclaim his home.

Earlier, Yancy had an encounter with Gracie at a coffee shop, noticing Nick’s watch on her wrist. After discussing its value, Yancy leaves for more coffee, missing Gracie as she discreetly slips away, unwilling to engage with him.

As the episode draws to a close, Nick and Eve, who seldom dine out, visit the same bar previously frequented by Yancy and Rosa. Nick orders inside while Eve waits for a table, creating a tense moment as the viewers realize that she stands adjacent to the Polaroid featuring Yancy, Rosa, and Claspers from the night before.

What to Expect from Episode 9 of Bad Monkey?

In the next episode, Claspers may find himself unjustly fired due to unfortunate circumstances. However, if Eve fails to notice the Polaroid, things could proceed according to Yancy’s plan, leading to Nick and Eve’s imminent arrest upon their return to Miami.
