Frontier AI Framework has identified two types of systems that are deemed too risky and are categorized under ‘high risk’ and ‘critical risk.’ These AI models are capable of aiding cybersecurity measures and chemical and biological attacks. These kinds of situations can result in a ‘catastrophic outcome.’Threat modelling is fundamental to our outcomes-led approach. We run threat modelling exercises both internally and with external experts with relevant domain expertise, where required. The goal of these exercises is to explore, in a systematic way, how frontier AI models might be used to produce catastrophic outcomes. Through this process, we develop threat scenarios’ which describe how different actors might use a frontier AI model to realise a catastrophic outcome.
