The AM4 platform continues to maintain its stronghold in the mainstream market, demonstrating remarkable resilience even as AM5 captures significant attention. Notably, AM4 remains associated with the best-selling chipsets today, highlighting its enduring popularity among users.
AMD B550 Chipset Motherboards Lead Sales in North America and Europe
It’s hardly surprising to witness AM4’s resurgence in a market increasingly challenged by skyrocketing prices for DDR5 RAM and the costly AM5/LGA 1851 configurations, which complicate the process of building a fast and budget-friendly PC. Although DDR4 RAM prices have also seen a considerable increase, platforms built around DDR4 remain relatively more accessible, making them an attractive option for cost-conscious consumers.
Since its launch nearly nine years ago, AMD’s AM4 platform has solidified its reputation as one of the most upgradeable systems available. The ongoing success of AMD’s Ryzen 5000 series processors confirms their effectiveness in both gaming and productivity tasks, thereby boosting the sales of AM4-compatible motherboards.
Despite the impressive sales figures of Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series CPUs, it is the B550 chipset that continues to dominate sales charts, outpacing both B650 and B850 models across various regions. A glance at top-selling motherboards across major retailers consistently reveals multiple B550 models leading the pack.

Whether browsing Amazon in the US, UK, or Canada, B550 chipsets consistently take the spotlight. Their sales success extends to prominent German retailers like Mindfactory, where B550 options command the best-seller list. One primary factor fueling this trend is their affordability; a reliable B550 motherboard can often be found priced between $100 and $120, a stark contrast to the more expensive B650 and B850 alternatives.
Currently, the top-selling motherboard on Amazon US is the ASUS ROG B550-F Gaming WiFi II, priced at around $139. In Canada and the UK, the ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus WiFi II and the MPG B550 Gaming Plus have emerged as favorites. Notably, the MPG B550 Gaming Plus has gained significant traction on Mindfactory as well, selling approximately 55, 370 units to date, with around 70 units sold in the past week alone (as per @TechEpiphanyYT).Following closely is the MSI B550-A Pro, which has recorded sales of 40 units, while interest in B650 and B850 models remains comparatively subdued.

Given the current climate, there is a strong case for AMD to consider reviving the Ryzen 5000X3D CPUs, as the market appears to welcome their return. However, no updates indicate that AMD plans to reintroduce these processors, especially with the strong foothold of the Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series in the current landscape.
