Dell and Microsoft Launch Azure Native Dell PowerScale Public Preview
Dell Technologies and Microsoft have unveiled the Public Preview of Azure Native Dell PowerScale, a cutting-edge, fully managed solution that provides users with access to Dell’s renowned unstructured data platform, OneFS, within the Azure ecosystem. This development introduces two distinct deployment options: Customer Managed Dell PowerScale for Azure and the newly launched Dell PowerScale for Microsoft Azure.
Deployment Options Explained
The first option, Customer Managed Dell PowerScale for Azure, empowers users to oversee the entire software and infrastructure ecosystem. Customers utilize their Azure tenant to manage compute, networking, and storage resources directly, tailoring their operations to meet specific requirements.
Conversely, the newly introduced service, Dell PowerScale for Microsoft Azure, sees Dell take charge of the underlying infrastructure. This fully managed service encompasses support, upgrades, and routine maintenance within a Dell-managed environment, ensuring seamless operations for users.
Integrated Management Through Azure
Microsoft describes the new offering as an Azure Native ISV service, facilitating deployment and management through the Azure Portal, while also being transactable via Azure Marketplace. This integration allows existing Azure customers to leverage their current commitments and contracts, streamlining the adoption process. Users can manage their deployments effectively using familiar tools, including Azure CLI and PowerShell.
Key Benefits of Dell PowerScale
One of the standout features of this solution is the embodiment of OneFS’s full capabilities. Users benefit from enterprise-grade efficiency, superior performance, robust resiliency, and the ability to scale to multi-petabyte capacities. This makes it especially suitable for data-heavy workloads, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), High-Performance Computing (HPC), and Electronic Design Automation (EDA).
Moreover, the service optimizes hybrid data estates by facilitating replication between on-premises and Azure-based systems. It includes data reduction mechanisms such as compression and deduplication, as well as file tiering options that enable efficient transitions to Azure Blob Storage with Cloud Pools. Additionally, users gain access to a vast array of Azure services related to AI, analytics, cloud disaster recovery, and application bursting.
Availability Across Azure Regions
Currently, Dell PowerScale is available in numerous Azure regions, including:
- US East
- US South Central
- US West 2
- West Europe
- North Europe
- UK South
