However, Azrael is not an easy victim, and the cult, along with the malevolent creatures awaiting a sacrifice, are not willing to let her escape easily. What fate awaits her, and can our brave protagonist survive?
Kenan’s death ignites Azrael’s quest for vengeance
This gripping film streaming on Shudder is set in a post-Rapture universe where a faction of evangelical survivors has formed a cult, enforcing silence as a means to expel sin. The cult, under the leadership of a pregnant woman named Miriam, is compelled to appease dark forces dwelling in the forest through sacrifices.
Azrael and her boyfriend Kenan are ensnared for this sinister purpose. However, Azrael proves resilient, managing to escape her captors and evade the cult’s grasp. Tragedy strikes when Kenan is brutally killed by flesh-eating demons, fueling her desire for revenge.
With vengeance in mind, Azrael returns to confront the cult. She finds Miriam, leading to a fierce struggle that leaves Azrael injured yet determined. In a desperate act, she scratches the cult leader’s pregnant belly, marking her resolve. Captured once more, Azrael is entombed in a box underground by the cult but ingeniously escapes.
Alas, Azrael’s luck is fleeting as she encounters another flesh-eating demon. As it prepares to attack, it unexpectedly halts, having detected the blood of the cult leader on Azrael’s fingers from their earlier confrontation.
Grateful for her unexpected fortune, Azrael returns to the cult’s camp, driven by her thirst for revenge. She sets tents ablaze and begins picking off cult members with precision.
After clearing the camp, she storms into the main house where Miriam is located. Their brutal confrontation continues until Miriam’s water breaks, compelling her to take refuge on a cot to deliver her child.
Does Miriam give birth to the Antichrist?
Upon the baby’s arrival, Miriam is visibly terrified. Instead of embracing her newborn, she tragically slits her own throat while Azrael looks on in horror. As the newborn cries, a swarm of demons infiltrates the house, yet they do not attack.
Instead, the demons unleash a cacophony of screams as if celebrating. As the camera zooms in on the infant, it becomes evident why—the child does not resemble a typical human baby; in fact, it appears devilish.
The infant may be a demon, possibly the Antichrist, which explains why the other demons refrained from attacking Azrael when they detected Miriam’s blood on her. The film leaves viewers pondering the fate of the newborn Antichrist.
