Azealia Banks in Birmingham: Hotel du Vin Addresses Rapper’s Hygiene Concerns

Rapper Azealia Banks publicly criticized a hotel in Birmingham for alleged hygiene issues. On Thursday, September 26, 2024, she posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) expressing her dissatisfaction with her stay at Hotel du Vin.

In her initial tweet, she stated:

“The city officials in Birmingham, UK, need to do something about the fish market at the Bullring market. It’s giving putrid pathogen Wuhan wet market tease and just being in there I caught some sh*t…”

Following her post, some users questioned her choice to stay near the Bullring market, prompting her to reply that Hotel du Vin was recommended when she searched for the best hotel in Birmingham. In a subsequent tweet, she noted:

“It was giving dust on the headboards and refilled Voss water bottles from the tap. It was giving jail break the handsoap teas.”

Some internet users remarked that she should have adjusted her expectations given her location near a fish market. To this, Azealia responded in another tweet, explaining that she stumbled upon the fish market while searching for a beauty supply shop.

Reportedly, the fish market has been operational since the 1800s, offering a variety of traditional and exotic fish, along with vegetables and fruits.

Azealia also alleged that the hotel featured misleading photos at the time of booking. Following these accusations, Hotel du Vin responded with a statement to Birmingham Live on Friday, September 27, asserting:

“Hotel du Vin is committed to upholding the highest standards of hygiene across all aspects of our operations.”

They further indicated that they take customer feedback seriously to enhance cleanliness and ensure a comfortable stay.

Azealia Banks Faces Previous Suspension from X for Offensive Comments

Azealia Banks is known for her outspoken nature on various topics. However, this has occasionally led to controversy; she faced a suspension from the X platform in 2016 for sharing homophobic remarks about singer Zayn Malik.

The Born & Bred music festival subsequently severed its ties with her due to her comments regarding Malik. Later, she took to Instagram to issue an apology to Zayn, stating (now deleted):

“Dear Zayn, There are no words that can fully express how sorry I am. Recent events have taught me the importance of taking accountability for one’s actions. I want and need to say I am sorry, I was wrong…”

Aside from her recent complaints regarding her stay in Birmingham, Azealia was in the UK to wrap up her first tour in several years, performing at various venues including Birmingham, Bristol, and Brixton throughout September.
