The 212 hitmaker Azealia Banks has threatened legal action against an X account after it published false remarks concerning Megan Thee Stallion, igniting a flurry of reactions online. On Thursday, October 3, Banks shared a tweet from the X account named Drop Pop or @DropPopNet.
Previously, on October 2, Drop Pop posted a tweet that quoted Banks as making disparaging comments about Megan Thee Stallion. The tweet claimed:
“Azealia Banks on Megan Thee Stallion: “How you gon’ name your fandom Hotties when you ain’t even decent looking?” “
However, Azealia Banks quickly refuted these claims, asserting she never made such remarks about the “WAP”artist. She responded:
“This is a lie. Never said this. In fact I’ve been vocal about how great Megan Thee Stallion has been looking. If going to f**k around, I will sue the person behind this page. Bored f***t.”
Notably, Drop Pop’s bio mentioned that it is a parody account active since 2010, a detail some X users highlighted in their replies. One user, @naevisualizer, pointed out:
“Their account literally says ‘parody’, girlll.”
Many social media users praised Azealia Banks for her sharp comeback. The modified version of a slur she included at the end of her tweet caught the attention of netizens who felt she “definitely ate”with her response. Here are some reactions from X to Banks’ tweet:
“Let’s be honest, guys, she may be homophobic, but she definitely ate with that one 🤣🤣😭😭”, shared one X user.
“Cook lol they tried to play you high key”, commented another user.
“Azealia came with receipts; can’t mess with her like that”, added a third user.
“Oh we love you”, expressed another user.
Several other users acknowledged they knew Azealia Banks wouldn’t have made such comments but urged her to temper her defensive stance. Some criticized Drop Pop for purportedly spreading misinformation:
“I knew you could never have said this ♥️”, said one user.
“Girl, save your coins; this is X. Why are you being defensive?”, asked another user.
“When will people stop spreading lies? It’s embarrassing”, lamented another user.
Drop Pop’s Response to Azealia Banks
As previously mentioned, after Azealia Banks criticized Drop Pop, the account replied to her accusations. They suggested they could “work it out on the remix”and clarified:
“For context, the post about Azealia is not factual. We are a parody pop page, as stated multiple times in our bio and expanded bio.”
Drop Pop’s bio describes it as the “all-time favorite source for pop parody culture and worldwide news.”Their ‘About’ section elaborates:
“Parody account: everything posted here is for humorous purposes, and our posts are not meant to be taken seriously.”
Earlier this year, Azealia Banks had addressed Megan Thee Stallion concerning the ongoing beef between the rapper and Nicki Minaj. On February 1, she used her Instagram stories to accuse Minaj of jealousy towards Megan, stating:
“It’s been years since JAY-Z has publicly co-signed any female rapper, and the fact that it’s Megan – It could be anybody. It could be f**king me. It can be Bhad Bhabie. It can be whoever. The fact that some female rapper who isn’t Nicki got JAY-Z’s public co-sign makes Nicki jealous.”
In her statements, she went on to describe Nicki Minaj as financially “f**ked up”and suggested that she desired to be a “Roc Nation girl so f**king bad.”Nonetheless, she encouraged Minaj to cease her battles with fellow female artists, asserting that the real adversaries are the “white men behind them”looking to capitalize on their success.
