Avowed: Top Weapons to Use in the Early Game

Avowed: Top Weapons to Use in the Early Game

As you embark on your adventure in Avowed, setting off on the right foot is crucial. After all, your mission is to rescue the world from the clutches of the Dreamscourge.

Fortunately, the game is designed to be more streamlined than typical open-world RPGs, making it surprisingly easy to equip yourself with effective gear early on.

This guide will explore the best early-game weapons in Avowed to ensure you’re well-prepared to tackle the challenges in The Living Lands. Below are five standout choices that are worth your attention.

If you happen to overlook any of these weapons, fear not — they will scale with your level, enhancing their stats if you return for them later!

7 Sheathed In Summer

For a Quick Stabby Experience

Sheathed In Summer

This unique dagger is a fantastic option for players pursuing a rogue-style build, offering substantial early-game damage.

It comes with a 10% bonus to Fire Damage on hits, and the base enchantment provides Fire Accumulation with every combo, leading to rapid buildup of burn effects on your enemies.

Utilizing the dagger often allows you to incinerate foes quickly, enhancing your damage output.

How to Acquire Sheathed In Summer: Defeat Octav the Firebrand located at The Godless Ruins, northwest of Paradise in Dawnshore. As part of a bounty quest, tracking him down should be straightforward.

6 Drawn In Winter

Freeze Your Foes!

Drawn in Winter

For those who prefer the might of an axe, look no further than Drawn In Winter, a superb weapon for early-game encounters.

This axe excels in inflicting Frost damage, with its enchantment enhancing your Power Attacks while also delivering substantial Frost Accumulation to nearby adversaries.

Moreover, your hits provide an additional 10% Frost Damage, allowing for impressive builds when combined with specific grimoires mentioned later.

Ensnare your enemies with frost, leaving them immobile while you unleash relentless attacks.

How to Acquire Drawn In Winter: This axe can be found at Watcher’s Mirror, located in the northeastern region of Dawnshore, conveniently included in the Call of the Past quest.

5 Caeroc’s Pride

Get Ready to Fire!

Caeroc's Pride

Sometimes, it’s necessary to bring a firearm into the fray, which is where Caeroc’s Pride shines.

This pistol can be dual-wielded alongside any previous weapons, allowing you to engage foes at a distance and switch to melee combat when necessary.

The weapon’s strength lies in its Shock Damage capabilities: its base enchantment significantly enhances your Shock Accumulation with Power Attacks while granting a 10% bonus Shock Damage on hits.

How to Acquire Caeroc’s Pride: Venture southeast of Shantytown in Dawnshore to find an island where Tempestuous Luandi resides. Defeating him will reward you with this powerful pistol, but proceed with caution—the enemies are formidable!

4 Beothel’s Grimoire

Magic Missile, Here I Come!

Beothel's Grimoire

This grimoire is my preferred secondary item throughout the game, boasting an impressive array of four powerful spells:

  • Corrosive Siphon: A beam that drains an enemy’s life force, causing Poison Accumulation while restoring health to the caster.
  • Arcane Veil: Creates a protective arcane shield that makes spell casting uninterrupted and improves damage reduction.
  • Parasitic Staff: Summons a staff that replenishes Essence on every strike.
  • Blizzard: Releases a storm of ice onto nearby foes, bombarding them with Frost Accumulation.

This grimoire provides a balanced mix of offensive power, defensive tactics, and Essence recovery, making it indispensable.

How to Acquire Beothel’s Grimoire: Speak with Merilyn in Paradise and purchase it for 450 Skeyt—this investment is absolutely worthwhile!

3 The Disappointer

What a Disappointment!

This weapon may initially appear underwhelming, especially with a 10% reduction in damage reminiscent of its Pillars of Eternity origins. However, it has a hidden strength!

Despite its drawbacks, it inflicts a 10% bonus bleed damage, offering a more favorable exchange post-enchantment.

When upgraded with the Tender Love and Care enchantment, it grants a 10% boost to Attack Damage, transforming it into a much more viable option.

How to Acquire The Disappointer: You can find this weapon for sale at Kerdhed “Cutty”Collen’s shop, Extremely Legal Goods, located in Northern Paradis.

2 The Philosopher’s Riddle

Riddle Me This!

The Philosopher's Riddle

The sluggish nature of two-handed weapons often frustrates me, but The Philosopher’s Riddle breaks this norm.

This weapon is surprisingly agile, thanks to its Aggressive Debate enchantment, providing a +15% Attack Speed boost for ten seconds after executing a full combo.

Furthermore, it deals additional Poison Damage, allowing you to unleash swift, lethal attacks with ease.

Finding it may require some effort; however, it’s situated in Castol’s Folly, atop the ledges, in front of a pile of mushrooms.

1 Last Light of Day

Burn, Baby, Burn!

Last Light of Day

This weapon holds a special place in my heart; it was my primary choice throughout most of my gameplay until I found something even more powerful later on. It even remained on my backup loadout.

The primary allure of this weapon is its ability to restore 3% of your health upon defeating an enemy, further solidifying its importance in keeping you in combat longer.

When upgraded, the enchantment can boost health restoration to 10% of your maximum health while also inflicting 10% bonus Fire Damage—it’s truly the cherry on top!

How to Acquire Last Light of Day: This weapon is obtained at the conclusion of the Dawntreader quest, which you can initiate at the Aedryan Embassy in Paradis.
