In the immersive universe of Avowed, players encounter a variety of intriguing characters. One such character is Private Nauki, who can be found in the Deadfall Highlands urgently seeking the Envoy’s assistance. He recounts a perilous tale of how his squad was resting peacefully in their camp when a sudden ambush by Xaurips disrupted their tranquility. Though Private Nauki managed to flee, the fates of his comrades remain uncertain. The next steps in this quest are crucial.
Initiating the First Contact With The Enemy Quest in Avowed

The adventure begins by engaging with Private Nauki, located within the Deadfall Highlands in the Shatterscarp region. As players approach his campsite, he will call out, seeking urgent help.
He outlines his dire predicament and implores players to uncover the fate of his missing squad, launching the First Contact With The Enemy Quest. This task will send players into the Xaurip camp to search for clues about the squad’s status.
Collecting Private Nauki’s Squad Badges

Your objective now is to retrieve four badges belonging to members of Private Nauki’s squad. Follow the quest marker to arrive at an area characterized by a giant monster’s skull known as Leviathan’s Hollow. Numerous Xaurips guard the premises, providing players with the option to confront them or cleverly bypass them by diving into the pool under the skull and emerging on the opposite side.
- The first badge is located in the central section of Leviathan’s Hollow, which is heavily guarded by Xaurips. Look for a body on the ground to collect Kiri’s Badge
.
- Proceed up the wooden platforms, ascend the staircase, and take a left into a smaller area where you will find Manu’s Badge
near an altar. Don’t forget to grab the Topaz Eye totem fragment while you’re here.
- Continue through the interior of Leviathan’s Hollow, heading west toward the outside, where another body awaits in the open. Loot this body for Captain Ruiki’s Badge
.
- To retrieve the final badge, re-enter Leviathan’s Hollow and turn left into an area with a rope bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the path until you reach a platform occupied by Sergeant Hasui. In conversation, he will reveal that Nauki abandoned his squad in their moment of peril. He will then hand you Hasui’s Badge
to return to Private Nauki.
Deciding Whether to Forgive or Confront Private Nauki

Once you have gathered the badges, make your way back to Private Nauki and confront him regarding his perceived cowardice. Depending on your interaction, players can choose either to forgive Private Nauki’s actions or engage him in combat.
Selecting the dialog option “I think you had a real reason to fear and did what you could do“allows players to show compassion, resulting in Nauki expressing gratitude and rewarding you with 900 coins. This choice concludes the First Contact With The Enemy quest favorably.
Conversely, if you opt for the dialog option “I think you’re just a coward looking for an excuse“, Nauki will retaliate with anger, leading to an easy boss battle. Upon defeating Nauki, you’ll report back to Thirdborn to share your actions with Temertri. This route does not offer a monetary reward, as she will demand the badges without compensation, but it completes the quest nonetheless.
