Avowed: Is It Wise to Give the Relic to Oracle Sargamis?

When faced with the ultimatum of assisting a Godlike, Oracle Sargamis, in his quest to sacrifice innocent souls to resurrect his nefarious deity, one cannot help but question the morality of such an action. As you embark on your adventure in Avowed, deciding whether to give Sargamis the relic is one of the pivotal dilemmas that will challenge your ethical compass.

What begins as a straightforward infiltration and rescue mission quickly escalates into a complex situation filled with difficult decisions and the potential to acquire one of the finest swords in Avowed.

Even if you are inclined to eliminate Sargamis for the sake of obtaining his legendary sword, it is important to weigh all your options. In this article, we will explore the repercussions of your choices, ultimately guiding you in making the critical decision of whether to return the relic to Oracle Sargamis.

Dawntreader Quest Overview

Your adventure begins as you approach the Aedyran Embassy alongside your companion Kai. After a premature encounter with death, you will find Ofryce in desperate need of assistance just outside the embassy. Tasked with searching for his brother and aiding the expedition team at the Eothasian Temple, your mission takes a darker turn.

Within the temple lies a hidden menace. As you venture deeper, you will ultimately locate Ofryce’s brother, Caedmon. To ensure his escape, administer a health potion or heal him with your magic, allowing him to reunite with Ofryce. Shortly thereafter, you will cross paths with Oracle Sargamis.

Sargamis will deny any knowledge of the expedition team while requesting your aid in locating the Splinter of Eothas—the prized relic the team sought. Thus, your new mission is to retrieve this valuable artifact.

Upon acquiring the Splinter of Eothas, you will face the optional task of investigating the fate of the missing expedition members. Following the trail will lead you to a concealed door and a device with three switches.Activate the switch on the right to access the hidden chamber.

Inside, you will confront the stark reality of the expedition team’s demise. Here, you can choose to confront Sargamis, unveiling his ulterior motives. Alternatively, you can opt to disregard Sargamis entirely, but be warned: this path bears no tangible rewards or long-term consequences.

Once Sargamis divulges his plan to utilize the souls of the expedition crew to revive Eothas, you will find yourself at a crossroads; you can either aid him or put a stop to his scheme. There is also an option to persuade Sargamis to abandon his intentions, which we will discuss shortly.

Your companion Kai is firmly against aiding Sargamis. Before finalizing your choice, it is crucial to understand the potential outcomes and ramifications of each decision you make.

Killing Sargamis

The most straightforward option is to defeat Sargamis, as the revival of an evil God should not come at the cost of innocent lives.

This decision will trigger a significant boss battle. If you prevail, you will have the opportunity to loot the Last Light of Day sword from his body, making it one of the best early-game weaponry in Avowed.

Post-battle, you can either exit the temple with your loot, destroy the statue, or dedicate the statue to the Voice.

Giving the Statue to the Voice

Talking to the voice in Avowed

After Sargamis’s defeat, the Voice will communicate with you through the Adra, requesting that you place the Relic of Eothas into the statue. However, rather than resurrecting Eothas, the Voice intends to utilize this body once it has escaped its confinement.

Minor spoilers follow regarding the implications of giving the statue to the Voice for Avowed’s conclusion.

At this juncture, little is known about the Voice’s true motives, but many consider this to be the most favorable outcome for this quest.

Should you agree to dedicate the statue to the Voice, this will slightly influence your ending where Sapadal roams the realm with the statue. There’s no need for alarm; the repercussions are not as dire as they might seem.

Choosing to destroy the statue, on the other hand, will displease the Voice, yet the consequences will not be severe.

If you choose to assist Sargamis, prepare for disappointment; the resurrection attempt will fail, regardless of your efforts.

Following this failure, Sargamis will implore you to sacrifice your soul for the experiment. Should you comply, your character will die, and the game will revert to your last save point.

Alternatively, you have the option to persuade Sargamis to sacrifice himself instead, leading to his demise and allowing you to claim the Last Light of Day sword from his corpse. The dialogue choices for this are:

  • The chime of an unknown Godlike won’t interest Eothas; it must be you.
  • Eothas didn’t preserve me for 600 years; it has to be you.

Your final choice is to convince Sargamis to abandon the experiment altogether. This is the only scenario where Sargamis will survive, and still, you will secure the Last Light of Day sword.

It remains uncertain if the background-exclusive dialogue options applicable to this choice are available to all players or if they’re limited to specific backgrounds.
