When venturing into a new area, my primary focus is often on acquiring superior armor to enhance my chances against unfamiliar foes. This is where the Practical Pockets treasure hunt becomes invaluable, offering the finest light armor I have encountered while exploring the somber region of Emerald Stair in the game Avowed.
If your gameplay prioritizes stamina and essence over raw defense, I invite you to explore the details on the Practical Pockets treasure’s location and the rewards it provides.
Finding the Practical Pockets Treasure Map
To obtain the Practical Pockets treasure map, simply make your way to the Emerald Stair region. Travel directly to the quaint city of Fior mes Iverno and engage with the merchant situated in the Gift Shop at the city’s southern end. The treasure map can be acquired for 660 coins.
Beware, as there are story spoilers ahead. I strongly recommend purchasing this treasure map before you initiate the Ancient Soil story quest. Completing this quest results in the Steel Garrote burning Fior mes Iverno to the ground, unless you manage to uncover their plans beforehand and save the city.
If you miss the opportunity to buy the map, while it may prevent you from fully engaging in the quest, you can still acquire the treasure reward.
Locating the Treasure
Once equipped with the map, head east to the Ranger’s Headquarters, located just northeast of the Farmer’s Market in Fior mes Iverno. Begin at the beacon found at the headquarters.
From the beacon’s viewpoint, follow the path north until you spot tree stumps off to your right. Proceed towards the stumps, then glance back at the Ranger’s Headquarters; you will recognize the familiar depiction from your treasure map.
Continue eastward until you discover the treasure chest, nestled in a small ditch adjacent to a pond. Loot the chest, and your quest will be successfully complete.
Reward for Your Efforts

Your reward for this treasure hunt is the Hijilde’s Handy Hide, a unique chest armor that comes pre-equipped with a +2 Fine quality upgrade. Personally, I found this armor to be immediately beneficial due to its impressive buffs.
The Hijilde’s Handy Hide armor features the All Seasons perk, which mitigates Fire, Frost, and Shock damage by 10%.Additionally, it includes the Survivor perk, granting an impressive +40 to your maximum health.
- 10% Damage Reduction
- +22 Additional Damage Reduction
- -20 Maximum Stamina
- -20 Maximum Essence
If you gravitate towards Light armor and favor stamina and magic capabilities over outright defense, the Hijilde’s Handy Hide ranks among the best options in the game.
Its impactful health boost significantly compensates for the lower defense stats, making it an excellent choice for agile players.
