His nephew, tragically slain by the Steel Garrote Captain, had been in possession of a family heirloom—a ring that players must retrieve as part of the Debt of Blood quest, seeking vengeance for this senseless violence.
How to Initiate the Debt of Blood Quest in Avowed
The Debt of Blood quest becomes available post the fiery destruction of Fior Mes Iverno, which only occurs after players successfully complete the Ancient Soil quest. To begin, venture to the Abandoned Farms located to the north of the devastated settlement where you will find Vemas Rogera awaiting assistance.
Engaging with Vemas will officially kickstart the Debt of Blood quest, setting you on a course to confront the Steel Garrote Captain at the Ranger Headquarters.
Should You Eliminate Captain Carnet or Resolve the Issue Peacefully?
Upon arriving at the Ranger Headquarters, proceed to approach Captain Carnet stationed by the bonfire. During your conversation, she boasts about her triumphant siege against Fior, leading to a confrontation regarding a ring she stole from a slain sentry. Carnet claims it as a trophy of honor in accordance with her clan’s traditions.
This interaction presents players with two critical choices: you can choose to engage Captain Carnet in combat and forcibly reclaim the ring, or you may opt for a diplomatic dialogue, successfully negotiating the ring’s return without violence. The latter path proves advantageous, as it grants you access to a unique weapon, Carnet’s Cutlass.
Should you decide to engage her and her forces, a challenging boss fight awaits. Expect fierce resistance from battlemages who provide magical defense. Therefore, it is advisable to first neutralize these magical threats before focusing on Captain Carnet herself.
Once you have defeated Captain Carnet, you will be able to collect the Rogera Family Ring along with the coveted Cutlass.
Returning the Rogera Family Ring to Vemas
Head back to Vemas to conclude the quest. If you successfully defeated Captain Carnet and retrieved the ring, he will reward your efforts with gold coins. Conversely, if you choose a non-violent approach, even if you return with the ring, Vemas will remain displeased and offer no rewards.
