Avowed: Assistance for the Voice in Strangleroot – A Message from Afar

Avowed, set in the rich lore of the Pillars of Eternity universe, offers players an engaging, choice-driven narrative. Players will find themselves immersed in extensive world-building, intriguing lore, and critical decisions that can dramatically influence their adventures. The journey begins in Dawnshore, where players quickly encounter a significant choice during the “Message From Afar”quest. This pivotal moment introduces you to the enigmatic Voice within your mind, prompting a crucial decision: will you embrace its offer of power or reject it? Below, we explore what unfolds based on your choice in Avowed.

Should You Aid the Voice in the Message From Afar Quest?

Avowed - Adra Pillar

Once you’ve triumphed over the Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear and conversed with the Aedyran Ambassador Hylgard during the “Message From Afar”quest, proceed to interact with the towering Adra pillar located at the grove’s rear. This interaction leads you to engage with the mysterious Voice in Avowed.

The Voice extends an intriguing proposition: assist in healing the corrupted grove in exchange for a favor. This marks the moment you must make your first significant decision:

  • Yes. I’ll help you.
  • No. I’m not making a deal.

Choosing to assist the Voice in the Strangleroot rewards you with the invaluable Dream Touch ability, which heals and revives nearby companions—a vital asset in challenging scenarios. Furthermore, this decision leads to the restoration of the corrupted grove, clearing the vines obstructing your pathway.

On the other hand, if you decline the Voice’s offer, you will obtain Godlike’s Will, a passive ability that grants you an extra ability point to allocate. While the path ahead will still be unblocked, the grove remains tainted with an unsettling green haze, as no healing has occurred. The Voice may express its dissatisfaction with your choice, yet this decision does not impact the outcomes of Avowed.

Should You Embrace or Dismiss the Voice’s Power in Avowed?

Avowed - The Voice

Acquiring an additional ability point to enhance your Fighter, Ranger, or Wizard trees may seem appealing, but it is essential to accept the Voice’s power during the Message From Afar quest. Notably, Godlike’s Will can be unlocked later, merely requiring you to decline any initial offers of power.

You will encounter two more opportunities to reject the Voice’s proposals after the “Message From Afar”quest: first in “Shadows of the Past”in Naku Kubel and again in “Our Dreams Divide Us Still”at Galawain’s Tusk. However, securing the Dream Touch ability is unique to this quest, making it a potentially missable asset.

The healing capabilities of Dream Touch, especially its ability to revive fallen allies, are far more advantageous during the early stages of the game compared to a single additional ability point. Therefore, it is advisable to harness the Voice’s power to unlock Dream Touch and later refuse its offers to obtain Godlike’s Will if you desire that extra ability enhancement.
