Major Update Announced for Avowed
Obsidian Entertainment has released a significant update for Avowed, the acclaimed fantasy RPG that debuted earlier this year. Patch 1.5 introduces extensive changes to various class trees, unveils new unique weapons, enhances graphic capabilities, and improves both cooking and crafting systems, making for an enriched gameplay experience.
Steam Deck Verification and Performance Boost
A noteworthy feature of this update is Avowed’s achievement of the Steam Deck Verification badge. This endorsement from Valve indicates that players can anticipate a seamless, high-performing experience on the Steam Deck handheld gaming console without compatibility issues.
Class Tree Overhauls: Ranger and Fighter
This latest update primarily targets the Ranger and Fighter class trees, as Obsidian aims to enhance their gameplay dynamics. New abilities and passives have been introduced to better align with the established Wizard class. Furthermore, all of the Envoy’s previous abilities have been refunded, enabling players to create new builds without incurring extra costs.
Ranger Class Enhancements
The Ranger class has received exciting new capabilities, including:
- Teleportation: Players can now teleport behind enemies for surprise attacks.
- Poison Daggers: Target groups of foes with deadly poison weapons.
- Smoke Bomb: Interrupt enemy actions effectively.
- Frost Traps: Set traps to slow down aggressive adversaries.
Fighter Class Innovations
For Fighters, the update introduces an array of powerful abilities:
- Driving Kick: Break through enemy defenses and send them flying.
- Barbaric Smash: A high-damage attack that also grants bonuses upon striking down opponents.
- Deep Breath: A restorative ability to recover stamina.
- Reviving Exhortation: Invoke help from a distance to revive allies.
Expanded Gameplay and Enemy Adaptations
Both Ranger and Fighter class trees now feature three new passive abilities each, enhancing dual-wielding capabilities, poisoning tactics, and damage mitigation. Furthermore, Obsidian has broadened the diversity of available builds for early-game players by introducing unique gear hidden across various regions, including Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, Shatterscarp, and Galawain’s Tusks.
In an interesting twist, enemy combat abilities have also been revamped, allowing foes to use previously exclusive player abilities, such as Returning Storm, Ring of Fire, and Tanglefoot, to create more dynamic combat scenarios.
Additional Features and Optimizations
The update also integrates various enhancements, including:
- A frame rate cap set at 40 FPS.
- A dedicated option for temporal anti-aliasing.
- A larger map reveal area to improve exploration.
- Redesigned UI for map markers.
- New accessibility settings.
- Support for Japanese and Korean languages.
