Current Status of Avengers: Doomsday Production
- The screenplay for Avengers: Doomsday remains incomplete just two months prior to filming.
- Filming is scheduled to commence in March and continue for five months in London.
- Concerns have emerged regarding possible delays due to the unfinished script.
Avengers: Doomsday is among the most eagerly awaited titles from Marvel Studios, marking its return to the Avengers saga more than five years after Avengers: Endgame released in 2019. Yet, troubling reports indicate that the script is still being finalized just months before the production team is set to begin their work.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, scriptwriters have yet to complete the screenplay, which raises concerns about the timeline. The production is still slated to begin in March, but the current status of the script has many speculating about possible delays. A document leak confirmed that filming will take place in London, with aims for completion in August.
The uncertainty surrounding the script’s readiness has stirred mixed reactions across social media. One commentator pointed out the extensive tasks ahead, stating, “So reshoots, potential rewrites, filming, VFX, editing, trial audience showings, advertisement—all happening in about a year for what aims to be a blockbuster?”This sentiment echoes a broader concern among fans and industry watchers about the feasibility of the timeline given the current delays.

While some enthusiasts express disappointment regarding the slow progress, many prefer a thoughtful approach to the scriptwriting process. They argue that taking the necessary time could lead to a more polished and compelling narrative. One fan emphasized the importance of quality, stating, “With the March deadline approaching, let’s hope the wait pays off with a blockbuster worthy of its title!”
Standard industry practice recommends that scripts should ideally be completed at least three to six months before filming begins. Given the current timeline, it’s clear that the Marvel team is under pressure to finalize the script. Historically, Marvel Studios has made last-minute revisions to align their films with the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or incorporate team feedback, which adds to the likelihood of project delays.
Moreover, Marvel has a notable history of postponing releases. For instance, Captain America: Brave New World faced delays, moving from a May 2024 premiere to February 2025. Conversely, some productions, such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, were released ahead of schedule to mitigate spoiler leaks. However, at present, Avengers: Doomsday is still on track as the writing team has until March to amend the screenplay. With fans eagerly anticipating the next installment in the Avengers saga for five years, the hope is that no further delays will occur.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026.
