Enhancements Coming to Google Chat Apps
Google has unveiled an exciting update for its collaboration tool, Google Chat. As the successor to Google Hangouts, Google Chat is designed to compete directly with robust communication platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams, while offering seamless integration with various applications to enrich user experience. These applications are instrumental in facilitating real-time interactions, including features like polls that can be easily added to discussions.
Simplifying App Management
Historically, utilizing apps within Google Chat required users to undertake some tedious manual steps. Each application had to be added individually to every conversation, whether it was a group chat, direct message, or specific space. This could quickly become cumbersome. However, Google has addressed this issue with a streamlined approach: once an app is installed, it will now be automatically incorporated into any future conversations where it is needed.
Automatic App Installation
To illustrate this enhancement, let’s consider the Poll app. Upon using it for the first time, users will be prompted to install it. Subsequently, every time they wish to commence a poll in a new conversation, the app will be readily available without the need for redundant installation steps. This newfound convenience is poised to boost productivity and make collaboration even more efficient.

Administrator Control and Customization
It’s important to note that despite this upgrade, control ultimately resides with Workspace administrators. They have the authority to install apps across the organization, ensuring that all users have access from the outset. Admins can perform installations directly from the Google Admin console by selecting the app from the Marketplace apps list and following the installation prompts.
The admin then reviews the access requirements alongside the developer policies and decides whether the installation should apply to the entire organization or just specific groups. This capability allows businesses to maintain oversight regarding which third-party services can interact with their data. Furthermore, administrators can impose restrictions on app installations, thus controlling the digital tools at users’ disposal.
Rollout and Availability
This beneficial change is currently rolling out to all Google Workspace customers, as well as personal Google account holders, across both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. With these updates, Google Chat continues to evolve, enhancing the collaborative experiences of its users.
