ATP Rankings update: Jannik Sinner becomes World No. 2 after Miami Open win, Grigor Dimitrov breaks into the top 10 for first time since 2018
Following his victory at the 2024 Miami Open, Jannik Sinner has taken over the second spot in the ATP rankings, replacing Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner, who has now won three titles this year, has accumulated 8,710 points, surpassing Alcaraz’s 8,645 points.
The impressive performance of Bulgarian veteran Grigor Dimitrov at the 2024 Miami Open did not go unnoticed. After finishing as the runner-up at the event, he made a triumphant return to the top 10 in the world rankings, a feat he had not achieved in six years.
In the most recent update of the ATP rankings, we will examine the notable changes that have taken place.
Despite being denied the opportunity to take the No. 2 spot from Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells, Jannik Sinner maintained his impressive performance in the Miami Open. He had previously been on a winning streak and although Alcaraz had defeated him in the semifinals, Sinner remained focused and ultimately defeated him on his way to clinching the 2024 Miami Open title.
After his performance in the Miami Open, Dimitrov surpassed Stefanos Tsitsipas, Hubert Hurkacz, and Alex De Minaur in the ATP rankings and secured a spot in the top 10. With 600 points gained, he is closing in on players like Casper Ruud and Holger Rune, and is determined to continue climbing up the ranks during the upcoming clay season.
Nicolas Jarry climbs into the top 20, Frances Tiafoe drops out of the top 25 in the latest ATP Rankings Update
Nicolas Jarry is steadily climbing the ATP rankings and is now approaching the top 20. With a total of 1755 points, he currently sits ahead of close competitors such as Lorenzo Musetti and Francesco Cerundolo.
Despite facing a second-round defeat in the Indian Wells against Fabian Marozsan, Jarry remained determined and entered the Miami Open. He quickly bounced back, defeating the talented Brit Jack Draper in his first match. The Chilean continued to impress, defeating Thiago Seyboth Wild and Casper Ruud before ultimately losing in the quarterfinals to Daniil Medvedev. His impressive performance earned him 180 points, solidifying his spot at 22nd in the world rankings.
Despite his early elimination in the Miami Open, Frances Tiafoe, a former World No. 10, was able to improve his ranking by one spot to 21st in the ATP rankings. However, his position is in danger as he will be competing in the upcoming US Men’s Claycourt Championships where he could potentially lose 250 points and drop down three places if he does not perform well.
The American has had a sluggish start to the season and will be determined to regain his top form during the clay court season. He holds the title of defending champion in Houston and is scheduled to compete in the tournament starting on April 1.
